Rifle in .327 Federal

My .327 can shoot more accurately than I can aim for sure. You can see some of my targets posted over in the range report thread @ 100 yards. I'm happy with that when I can eat up the target with 50 rounds to where it just looks line one big hole.

I just got my Spring 2018 copy of Guns Of The Old West. There is a good write up about the H.R.A. brass .327 rifle. He got 1834 fps. with 120 grain Double Tap ammo.

Hard to find DT. Actually, it's getting hard to find AE in .327 lately. I went to the range today. I didn't do as well as in the past ( I couldn't flinch the same way twice today ). I'll post the target tomorrow.

I just hit the buy button on my second Henry Big Boy Steel in .327Fed/mag. Both blued, both 20" barrels, identical save for the serial number. (I really do hope THOSE are different!
I've had the first one since August of last year.

Why 2?

I absolutely love my first one.
The second may not get fired for years to come.
Kind of curious to see how far apart the serial numbers are.

Kind of what I was thinking.
I have 2 nephews that will likely inherit my collection.
I wouldn't want them to have to argue over who gets the .327 rifle.

Got a pair of carbines for the same reason. I may be wrong, but I anticipate the .327 will take the same route as the .32 H&R. These may be quite the investment ... some day.

In the mean time, I really enjoy this cartridge.

If you mean the round will languish in relative obscurity, I sincerely hope you're mistaken, but I'll be prepared nonetheless.
When I got my first one, I bought 500 bright and shiny brand new Star-Line cases, and I have a friend that casts and powder-coats some nice .32cal pills for me.
I might just lay in a coupe more orders of cases, just in case...

The .32 H&R is still out there. And my 1894s are a favorite. But I was thinking the .327 rifles will probably be a short run like the Marlin's were. I wonder how well they are selling. My last one still had a SN below 500. I won't be surprised if in a few years, they fall into the "highly collectible" category.

In the mean time, I will enjoy my purchase.

O.k. the second one came home today.
Looking at the pair, and their respective boxes, I noticed something kind of neat.
Henry's all come from the factory with the "born on" date marked on the inspection tag.

My first .327 Big Boy was born on August 8th, 2017
My second .327 Big Boy was born on February 8th, 2018.
Six months to the day!
Couldn't do that again even if I tried.

My first .327 has a serial number under 120.
The second, produced and purchased 6 months later, has a serial number under 850.

I think the new one will just sit in the factory grease...
for a few years anyway.

Interesting for sure Id be curious to talk to Jake to see what he has tried load wise. Looks like a fun caliber. But I have done a little research online here and find very little in the way of bullets for this caliber. I think the Hornandy would be a good choice but at .16 cents a piece that puts the price of this round higher than 357. I like shooting copper plated bullets better because of leading issues with certain lead bullets. Im gonna keep looking but I would be hard pressed to take one over a 357. Al

My favorite is 115gr .312 RNFP made for the .32-20. I fill the case to the base of the seated bullet without compression.

I've had good luck with Meister 115gr hard cast for the .32-20 as well.

I'm using Hornady 100 gr and Sierra 90 grain. Yes, they're a bit more expensive but well worth it to me. I reload with Accurate No. 9 and Federal small magnum primers. I'll look into the others listed here. They can be found "on sale" every now in then so I stock up.

There are coated cast bullets which brings the price to roughly 7 cents per bullet.
