Willy Boy checks out my new Henry

Post by Sir Henry » Sat Feb 24, 2018 4:29 pm

I think he is trying to tell me how many cat toys I could have bought for the money. Speaking of which, the rifle was $760, not $560 as I stated earlier. This is my first centerfire Henry.

SH,

Is this HENRY in the .223/5.56Nato caliber?

Are you going to buy ammo or reload?

Or do a bit of each?

Enjoy your rifle!

I have not seen any of these in our stores but I have not been gun shopping/gun looking in some time.

I just looked up the pictures on the HENRY WEBSITE.

Did you see one with the iron sights on it in the store even though you ordered one with no iron sights on it?

I bought it in .223/5.56Nato and without sights. I plan on scoping the rifle with a modern Leupold. I have several thousand rounds of reloaded 5.56Nato but will not be shooting it in this rifle. It won't hurt it but having reloaded it myself I know it is not that accurate. It was meant to be shot in a real M16A1 which my friend had a few years ago in Montana. The cases of Federal XM193 that I have are factory but still not very accurate. Then I have about 200 rounds of .223 Sellier & Bellot which is my best ammo in that caliber. Everything is 55 grains.

It was the only Long Ranger he had so I didn't get to see or hold a sighted rifle.

Lovely rifle, Gene. Nice wood. Great choice for a first centerfire Henry. Looking forward to a range report.

The .223 Rem will SHINE in the Long Ranger - virtually no recoil and will be a tackdriver once SH gets a load worked up. Hmmm - Might have to take a 2nd look at a LR! Sir Henry - if you ever get down to Central Oregon bring your LR and give me a shout!

Wow, what a gorgeous Long Ranger, the wood looks great.
I think that's still a good price too! Congrats!
Can't wait to hear how it shoots.

Awesome wood SH. I like it without the sights. Do you already have the scope or do you need to buy that and the mounts to?

Wait a minute did you get a new camera to?

I have extra scopes laying around but not one that would match the rifle. So I need scope and mount. No I did not get a new camera.

Very nice. I just got the same rifle. I put a redfield 4-12 on it, for now. i feel the rifle would look better with a shorter scope. hope it is a tack driver for you. Will you hunt with it?

No I haven't hunted in decades if you don't count eliminating rabbits in the hood.
