Reworking my walnut cane

After my trip to Occupational Therapy last week for Tai Chi basics, I have been working on my custom cane again. I knew it was over length and took the opportunity to have a "pro" size it to me. I needed to take three inches off. After trimming the length, I reshaped a good bit of the shaft, and stripped the finish. I have been working over the past couple of days. After final sanding this morning, I applied the stains. Walnut to the walnut shaft and colonial maple to the maple/mahogany grip. Much better result.

After a couple hours for drying, I applied the first coat of poly varnish. Pics to follow when I'm back at the desktop to download.

I also have one in pieces on the bench I picked up at an antique shop. I need to cut off a nub at the top that's worn, one at the bottom as well. Then replace both with a hardwood section I'll epoxy in place, adding strength with a short rod. Then I can reinstall the handle and foot.

Here is the reworked cane... slimmer and refinished. Cut to the correct length.
I am pretty happy with it.

I made this one using my B&M shift handle off my race car for the last 40 yrs . Stainless steel shaft and I keep in my Miata

The shillelagh is the one I strapped on my motorcycle handle bars . It has no hook to catch on anything .
