Re: New BBS
The big loop I bought separate. I just haven’t put it back on. I took the new pics a few minutes after unboxing it. I emailed them yesterday and asked them if it was possible that they could send a new stock. I really don’t want to go through the hassle of sending it back. Hopefully a new stock will fit better.
Edit: Patrick from Henry emailed me and said that they’ll send another stock. Cross my fingers that it fits better. If not a perfect fit I’ll just choose the one that fits best and call it good.

Re: New BBS
I like the idea of trying another stock, Henry should certainly provide you one that fits better.. Then, with a little Prussian blue and some time, you may be able to fit the original perfectly yourself, if you like doing that sort of thing, and you won't be out anything if you mess it up. It is kinda tricky to hand fit wood to a tang like that, I think bedding a bolt action is easier, actually. Maybe Henry's CNC stock carving machines got out of wack, and made a bunch that are dimensionally incorrect.

Re: New BBS
Yeah, I got a feeling this new one is going to fit the same at the top and bottom, since it seems that almost all of them are fitting the same lately. But I could be wrong. I’m wrong a lot.

I do so hope that the new stock fits like a glove. But, when you get it and if it doesn't fit any better, I'd want to know why, too. It may be pure bad luck, but if a production machine is producing less than required tolerances, and QC gives it a pass, that's something that should be addressed. I'd raise the flag and see how long it takes Henry to salute.Hidden Mortimer wrote:Yeah, I got a feeling this new one is going to fit the same at the top and bottom, since it seems that almost all of them are fitting the same lately.

Re: New BBS
Just received the new stock today and I must say, I’m disappointed. I think their machines are out of wack. It looks almost the same as the one it replaced, except the sling stud on this one is straighter. I’ll post pictures tomorrow but there really is no difference on the wood to metal fit. Oh well, it is what it is. I’ll just learn to overlook the flaws. Hopefully it shoots good.
Re: New BBS
Well, I guess one out of two is not too bad. But, it is probably easier to claim instead of dealing with it. Since you have a backup, can it be refinished for a better fit?

Re: New BBS
It’s actually one out of three because the top and bottom still look the same. Not enough wood at the bottom and a little too much on top. I believe the old stock could be refinished, all it would take is to sand down the left side by the receiver. I wouldn’t know how to finish it to match the foregrip though.
Re: New BBS
I can understand. I have a spot on the forearm for a Marlin that I have been thinking how I would like to deal with it. I thought about taping around the area and repairing it. Or, just re-staining to a darker color. I figured to use a process of a base stain of some type. Then, a top coat of some type of protector. I re-finished some baseboards about 10 years ago. I used a natural stain as a base with polyurethane as the final coat. It still look nice. Wood is wood, so a similar process should work. The top coat will probably be different though, something not too glossy.
Below is a link from a Marlin site about someone re-finishing a stock. The whole process may not be required. But, it may spun some ideas. The stain on the Henry of my looks like mahogany. But, Henry should be about to offer an idea about stains and top coats. I suspect people scratch finishes all the time and repair them. If you decide to pursue that route, would like to know which finish is recommended by Henry.
Thanks,

Re: New BBS
You would have to refinish to forestock also to get a perfect match. Sometimes you can ‘raise’ wood if it is not too short. I have steam raised many small dents in stocks I have refinished - and I may be refinishing my stock on my BBB due to a couple small dents in the stock I am not ‘proud’ of - don’t ask!I wouldn’t know how to finish it to match the foregrip though.
