Powder Measure

I use the Lee Perfect Powder Measure for my handloading. Cost for this measure is normally less than $25. I like it okay but for a couple of powders (AA#9 and 2400) it leaks powder from the pivot. If I tighten the screw so powder doesn't leak, it is hard to operate. I really hate to spend over $80 for a measure.

Anybody have any experience with a moderate cost powder measure that does not leak powder when using. Appreciate hearing your thoughts on this subject. Thanks!

I guess all drum types have the potential to leak some. I've not had much from my RCBS uniflow though with the powders I use. If you get one of these get the optional small measure assembly for it. It comes with the large one for rifles and it doesn't meter smaller amounts of powder well.

It comes with a mount to put it on the press. but I prefer the optional stand. That's how RCBS gets you. They sell each piece separately.

My next masure will likely be a good self metering electronic one with an integrated scale.

Different measures tend to work better with different powders as well.

I only load 38 special and 357 magnum rounds. I've found that H110 leaks badly; but it's a powder that I like for .357 158 grain JHPs so for that load, I use a dipper I made to deliver my preferred volume. For 125 grain JSPs and 130 grain FMJs, the powders I use are either HP-38, Unique, or Universal in both 38s and 357s. They do not leak; so - with them - I still use the Lee Perfect Powder Measure which makes the process a bit faster.

Tried the "Perfect" powder measure. Found it to be much less than perfect. Mine leaked with any powder I tried. Have a Uniflow now. Couldn't be happier!

You might try the Lee Auto Drum powder measure; it was introduced in 2015.... about $35.00 at Amazon and Midway. I use it for .40 S&W, .44Mag, .45-70, .30-06, and .303 Savage. it is equally good with spherical, flaked, and extruded powders. I use a lot of Accurate #9 and I have not had any leakage with the Auto Drum, as I did the Lee's Auto Disk system. the Auto Drum is accurate to .50 gr., and is fast. I can charge a 50 round reloading tray of cartridges in 20 minutes.

back in the mid '60's I ordered what they called back then a Rock Chucker Combo .... I still use all of the components and the all still work as designed .... the Uniflow Powder Measure has thrown hundreds of thousands (no exaggeration) of charges and never leaked any powder of any kind .... I have the Lee scooper too .... It takes all 4 powder measures to load all the different type of powders . I have not found any powder I can not load with them .They are for sale too .
