I was on gunbroker last night and there was 2 223 Henrys for sale. I looked agin tonight and they are gone. Those things are selling as fast as they are posted. I think Henry is going to have trouble keeping up for a while on the single shots. I wish they would have come out with one in a 38-55. The wood on yours looks great. Congrats on the new 223. Im looking forward to seeing a range report. Al

I am curious about the amount of recoil from the .223 single shot. I had a motorbike wreck in January and broke my collarbone into 4 pieces. Had surgery to repair it and it seems OK but I am leery of shooting a shoulder rifle with a lot of recoil.

Not bad - depending on the rifle. I have an NEF Handi-Rifle in .223 with the heavy barrel and its nothing really. I would say its about like a Winchester 30-30 if I had to compare it to something - and maybe a little less. I suspect the Henry will be even less as it appears to be a little more robust than the NEF.

I was sent these photos to post for Yornoc3. This is his 45-70 single shot. It looks really nice to me and has some very nice figure in the wood on the stock. Congrats Al

A big thanks to Al for posting pics for me. I'll work on getting trained up myself . One thing you'll notice about the 45-70 is that Henry has located the rear sight farther back than on the smaller bore models. This can complicate fitting a scope base, if you're so inclined, because using the Weaver 82 will require removal of the rear sight. I fit a Warne 981M, but it takes a little modification to make it fit.
In my photo, glare from the window washed out the fiddleback a bit, it has better wood than I expected, for sure. When it gets above 0, without snowing, I'll shoot it. That might not be for a while .

My experience is similar to MisterEd's. My single shot in 223 is probably even lighter at about 5 pounds. It's a Contender carbine. Noise and blast are more than, say, a 22 Hornet, but recoil is not at all a factor. Even if you found it uncomfortable to shoot, you could still add a slip on recoil pad or, better yet, a Past padded shoulder pad.
