Very true. In my own state of Oregon the eastern part, basically East Central to the Idaho border was an area of 'late' homesteading with many of those arriving in the late 1800's and continuing on through the 1930s with many living what could be considered very 'primitive' existences. There isn't a lot of documentation on the history of this but Oregon was a state that did not receive a lot of population increase until this time frame and even then it wasn't a massive land rush. These people had very little and lived more reminiscent of a lifestyle of pioneers than what was available in larger areas. An excellent book exists written by an early Oregon homesteader named Rube Long called 'The Oregon Desert. It is an an anecdotal account of his life and and experiences growing up on the Oregon High Desert and he is buried on land he turned over to the state to create a State Park.

Not at all surprised, having visited the Oregon high desert area. That's some rough and very sparsely populated country. If a person wanted to disappear, that would be a good place to do it. Beautiful, though, in its own way. Loved it.

I have a Henry in .357 and a Ruger Blackhawk Convertible in 45acp/45colt. Nice variety and the 45 auto is economical to shoot in the Blackhawk compared to the 45 Colt. I also have an H&R single shot in 45 Colt that is a lot of fun to shoot.

Don't know what part you visited but I am about about 45 minutes West of the Fort Rock/Christmas Valley areas which were the epicenter of a lot of the early homesteading in the area.

Used to be a few big old time ranches in Oregon, the ZX was one. The MC was another near Adel. Hundreds of thousands of acres. Big old time horse and wagon buckaroo outfits. Most are gone now. ZX might still be around.

Yep - the ZX is referenced a few times in the book I mentioned. The Viewpoint was also a well known, big one.

I don't reload , so I feel your pain on the 45 colt ammo. Started buying in bulk, now it's a little less painful. My 357 Blackhawk is easier on the billfold, when using 38's.

Me too. I shoot only factory 45 Colt. Wish bulk ammo was readily available in Canada.

In full editor mode go to attach files. Then upload from your pc files. Should work. That's how I do it.

Excuse me if this has been discussed to death (new to the forum). But do others feel the need to buy single action revolvers to go with their Henry rifles? I have a Ruger Vaquero 45lc to go with its counterpart ,and a 357 Ruger Blackhawk to go with my 357 Henry. Maybe I just watch to many Westerns.
