shine or not

When I first got my brassy lady I was going to keep her nice and shiny but I am not so sure now. The brass is taking on a nice patina, sort of a dull but warm glow. I think I am not going to polish for while and see. Thoughts ladies and gents?

brass is not for me but I'd sure appreciate you posting pictures in this thread every so often so we can see how yours ages ..

Personal call, of course, but old traditionalist me prefers the the aged brass look. Don't think owners of those original brass receiver lever guns spent a lot of time polishing up the brass, not when they were using their guns for protection or hunting.

My 1860 gets a wipe down after use with an oily cloth but that's it. No polish. Here's hoping it ages better than I did. I like the look of those old museum 1860's. Dark worn stocks, dull aged brass....that's what I want hanging on my saddle.

Here she is; the wood is already starting to darken up a bit, and the brass is doing whatever brass does if I don't baby it....there's a couple of scuffs on the other side from pulling it out of the scabbard but that's what I have it for!

I think I will let the rifle age and show its years, sorta like me. I would post pictures by I don't seem to understand the procedures involved to do it successfully. I always seem to screw it up

Anymore I just use lemon pledge on mine polishin the brass is for the guy who gets it after I go to the dirt. Al

Both of my Big Boys have lost their shine. The one I bought new I let get that way and the last was bought that way. The .44 mag I bought new still has someone's fingerprint in the brass who looked it over sometime before I bought it.

I plan to hunt with them. I did put a coat of Johnson's furniture wax over the .44. The .45 will get some when I get to it.

I guess I'll have to be the odd man out here. I like polished brass. My Golden Boy and my Big Boy have also had their stocks polished to a glossy finish. The 45/70 has not. But it will probably get the treatment over the winter.

That's why they call it a Golden Boy!

The beauty of this problem is that it really doesn't matter. If you want patina let it go for while without polishing. if you decide you want shine most any good metal polish will bring the shine right back with little effort.
