I've already made my introductory post, and thought I would follow up with a bit more information. I'm 72, last time I was deer and elk hunting was November 1968. I did a lot of large bore match shooting before I got drafted into the Army, entered active duty in January 1969. Served a tour in Vietnam with the 25th Inf Div as a sniper. So I guess it could be said that I have sent a lot of lead down range. I reckon my Vietnam experience took the hunting desire out of me, mainly because I didn't know what my reaction would be if a stray round happened to come close. I continued to serve in the Army until 1979, 5 1/2 years in Alaska where I taught a lot soldiers survival, mountain climbing, and skiing. Just last year I came to the realization that I have been short changing my son and grandsons of a lot of useful knowledge, so I decided it was time to get back into shooting and hunting. We have been to a local range several times since I bought my Sharps and have had a lot of fun. The last time out I was ringing the gong at 500 yards using iron sights on the Sharps. The second general season for elk in Oregon opens the 18 of November, my son and I are going I know it will be a lot of fun, even if we don't see anything. Hope I didn't bore anyone.

Time at the range with your family is priceless. My daughter and I go almost every week. It is the highlight of my week.

Glad you shared your story and thanks for your service. The decsion you made to return to shooting for the family will be remembered by them for there lifetime. I to have shot some long range with a Sharps. I still have my 45-100. Havent shot it in sometime but had fun when I did. Welcome from Colorado.
