357 Blackhawk

Shot my new Blackhawk this afternoon.

From the bench (actually the hood of my truck) at 10yds. Other than the 3 flyers it shot a real nice 9 shot group after some sight adjustment and getting somewhat used to the gun. Tried some from 20yds but it was overcast and getting dark so I was having a hard time seeing the front sight clearly. Put some white paint on it after cleaning it this evening.



Shot some free hand at 10 yds before leaving, 6rds of .357, 12rds of 9mm. Not really terrible considering it was getting pretty dark and shooting a new to me gun and caliber. It's definitely a lot softer shooter with 9mm.

I had a Blackhawk myself back in the late 70s. Or was it the early 80s...
Anyway... in that period... it was sell one to buy one. I think the Blackhawk made room for a Commander. I carried that for several years. Always regretted letting go of the Blackhawk, it was a shooter.

I have thot several times about buying the convertible in that caliber but have held off. I have a friend who has one and he likes his but he like me doesnt shoot that gun real often. Nice groups and hope you enjoy it. Al

I have had a .38/.357 Blackhawk for several years. It is no the convertible model. It is a good shooter and the more you shoot it the better you will get. I did paint the front sight on mine with one coat of white fingernail polish followed by two coats of a bright orange polish and that helped my shooting.
If I had to settle on just one revolver, this is the one I would choose.

I think you made a wise choice!

It's the only revolver I've owned other than my old Charter Arms .38 Undercover with a 2" barrel. I'd be happy to keep all the rounds on paper at 10 feet with it.

Did you put the orange on it before shooting it with just the white? I put some white enamel paint on it and thought I'd try it before getting some fluorescent orange paint at the hobby store.

It sure takes a lot longer to clean than my semi-autos, especially when you use both cylinders.

I never tried shooting with just a white painted front sight. I have a .22 revolver that has a orange square on the top of front sight and it worked well for me so I decided to make the Blackhawk with orange on the front sight and that works well for me.
