Sellier & Bellot Ammo

Anybody use ammo made by these guys? I can buy bulk 45 Colt in Canada at a reasonable price. Bulk is hard to find here. My favorite store "Wholesale Sports" is closing down all locations after 30 years; they had the best price on 45 Colt ammo.

I've used it and liked it. You will probably not be disappointed, especially if you can save some money and continue to put ragged holes in your targets.

Most of the reviews I read were ok. If I buy bulk I can get for $.90/round and free shipping. Believe it or not that's a great price here. I know....reload. But I really don't have the time or the place to set up reloading right now. I do however have several thousand rounds of saved brass....

I have used their .40 S&W and their 9mm ammo, and both were fine. I have also used quite a few of their primers, small pistol and large rifle, and they are also good. I expect their .45 Colt ammo should be good, too.

Ive used it RR its good ammo. Now to compare it to your already fav ammo you will need to shoot it in your gun. It may or may not be as accurate as the one you have now but at least you wont be out as much if it isnt. You can also burn it up in that pistol and save the other for the rifle.

I've used their primers and found them to work well .... no experience with their factory loaded ammo

The S&B ammo is pretty good stuff from my experience. I've used S&B .357 Magnum 158gr FMJ for practice rounds both in my Henry Big Boy and SP101. Would buy it again when needed.

I've used quite a bit in 5.56 and 9mm, both bought in bulk. It was acceptable for plinking, fed reliably, and had no FTF's. It isn't match ammo but is reasonably accurate.

They load the Herter's stuff that Cabela's sells. I've found that stuff to be pretty decent at a good price.

Keep saving the empty brass. It's trade-able to fellows who reload. Member Maplehill has shared some of his trades with me. He indicates some brass is very rare and most any brass is able to be traded with others.

While the Sellier & Bellot can be loaded I've found that its only good for a few reloads. The factory loads are great and I've had few problems with it.

I may order a couple of boxes and try it out. Price is right. I just bought some Black Hills for just under $1/round. If the Czech stuff is ok at $.90/round, I'd consider a bulk order of 1000 rounds. Thks

I am getting ready to buy some bulk ammo this week. Another option is Federal American Eagle 45 Colt JSP. I have shot a couple of boxes of this stuff before. 225 gr bullets, not the 250 gr I usually shoot. However. I am concerned about the copper jacket fouling the barrel on my Henry. I can get a good deal on 800 rounds, but again; concerned. Would appreciate hearing from the JSP shooters here, and barrel observations versus the plain lead I normally shoot. Here's the bullets:

RanchRoper, Txgunrunner, who knows his stuff, strongly advises against shooting both copper and lead bullets through the same barrel. Since you normally shoot lead, I think he'd suggest that you avoid shooting the JSPs you're considering.

I'm in the other camp. I only shoot jacketed bullets; so NO lead for me. I think he knows what he's talking about and take his advice.

I have no doubt that he knows what he's talking about .... absolutely , none at all .... that said, I don't have duplicate firearms that would allow me to use only lead or jacketed bullets and, given, I don't shoot on a professional level .... I do shoot what I have, when I want to .... a while back, after reading how doing so is bad, I got so concerned about mixing them that I bought and began using both lead and copper removers ... so far, the only thing using them has proven is I haven't had any significant issues .... I clean the barrel after shooting and have been doing so since the '60's .... after 50 or so years firing untold 10's (if not 100's) of thousands of mixed rounds in several different calibers, I haven't had any issues .... one day that might change but right now, I no longer worry about it

I think I'll bulk order some Sellier & Bellot; LFN, same as what I always shoot. I found some in Canada online for a good price. Thanks for the comments.

Just ordered a dozen boxes online (600 rounds) of this stuff...works out to about $.85/round which is pretty darn good for up here in "anti-gun, what the heck is a 2A?" land.

If I like it, I'll get some more. Stay tuned.

I just got a box of MagTech Cowboy Action 200 grain 45LC. It was 80 cents per round, which I thought was high. My friend assured me that it was difficult to find. I guess you are lucky up there.

Cabela's on line has 250 gr 45LC 300 & 600 bulk packs for $.75 /$.73 each .... a few cents does add up when you are ordering hundreds at a time
