32 cal is a great cal . It fouls up quickly so I clean almost after each shot . Good luck with it and please post pic when you get a chance .

That's a beautiful classic looking gun, Jaker.Jaker wrote:It's actually a traditions deer hunter I believe, I build it from a kit!
In Florida, perfect for small game but to hunt deer muzzleloading guns firing single bullets must be at least .40-caliber

I am not sure it's fairly light and I do not have an accurate scale, this model was discontinued several years ago and I found it on gunbroker.com so I built it and love it!Catherine wrote:Jaker wrote:It's actually a traditions deer hunter I believe, I build it from a kit!

Okay and I read this again.
So a 32 caliber in your BP rifle has the kick of a 22wmr - 22magnum rifle?
What does a 36 caliber BP rifle kick like please?
Thank you.

Re: .32 cal black powder
With BP you control the load so you can find a load that works for you and your rifle. I usually use 70 grains of Triple 7 FF (a BP substitute available locally) in my .45 and .50, which is accurate and has very little kick. Some use less and others more. So you should be able to find a load that doesn't have much recoil out of a .36 cal. I recommend that for a .36 cal you start with about 40 grains and see how you like it. Then you can increase the load by 5 grain increments up to 60 grains until you find a load you like. So recoil really isn't an issue with BP.
However, BP makes a lot of noise and smoke, and sends a big flame out the muzzle. This, along with the smell, is an attraction for many of us! The other consideration with BP is it is dirty and requires you to clean your rifle soon after shooting. While this is a good practice with any firearm, the sulfur in BP (and some substitutes) will result in rust and pitting.
