Help!

Post by Twotone » Tue Oct 24, 2017 4:30 pm

Hi all,
Well, the Winchester 94 is a joy , but.... have some PPU factory ammo, 150 gn soft point. Very hot and a bit scary and I had to adjust my sight to the lowest setting to get cock on at 25 yards.
Then I loaded some lead bullets, 173 gn lyman 141 with 2400 powder ranging from 14.5 to 16.5 gns. Everything now shot low by eight inches at 25 yds . I adjusted the sights to the highest setting but still way low. Not sure what to do now. Is it abnormal expecting to get sight on at 25 yds? It was in very poor light in a tunnel and could not see beyond the 25 yd line with the iron sights.

I don't know about Winchester but the Marlin 30-30s with a stock front sight will be (considerably) high at 25 yards with store bought ammo.

Put on a taller front sight.
Custom load slower cartridges.

Sunday I had a new to me 336 30-30 at an out of town Silhouettt Shoot . I had 160 cast lead bullets loaded for theoretical 1600+fps. Stock front sight and a Williams receiver sight set at its lowest setting . I was shooting very high on the 50 meter chinkens

Continuing to sight in my 336rc 30-30 I. Loaded some 160 cast lead with some Trailboss in the 900-1050 fps range. Went to the range and the 900fps were near right on 50 meter chickens.
Interesting but not the solution for me.
I've put a taller front sight on. It has worked foe me before.
