
Talk about ruining a guy’s day. I called around and found out that this was definitely not a good thing. One place wanted $150-200 to cut a dovetail in the slide and mount a new sight. Woulda taken 3 weeks. The guy I think I trust more said he won’t cut a dovetail in an old Series 70- said that would ruin it- and says he can re-stake it. Says it will take about two weeks (I’m not optimistic), and will cost $60 plus the cost of a new front sight blade. So, my gun is with him.
Meanwhile, I’ve decided the only rational thing is... to buy a new 1911 to shoot while I’m waiting to get mine back.
