new Skinner peeps

Got my Skinner barrel mount peep sights installed. Hopefully will get a chance to sight them in this weekend, been busy getting things ready for Winter. I'm sure I will like them, much easier to focus on the front sight.

Have used the barrel mount Skinner peep on several guns. Makes for a nice trim setup and upgrade on guns that don't have a way to go with a receiver peep. Also like the fact that I've almost never had to change out the front sight. Let us know how the Skinner works for you.

I thought about getting the receiver mount Skinner's but didn't want to deal with changing the front sight. Also if I do decide to put a small scope on it at some time I still think I'd modify the Rhino scope mount to fit my BBB so I wouldn't have to remove the scope mount to use the iron sights.

Having the peep sight setup and ready to go is a nice option when mounting a scope. Another plus for the barrel mount peep.

Got an SGC in 22 magnum with the Skinner receiver mounted peep. Worked pretty well at 25 yds. This weekend, at 50 yds I got a group somewhere north of 4". Just can't see well enough to shoot something small. So, I had some see thru mounts and a Nikon 4x to put on it. Mmmmm........ Not enough space in front of the Skinner, so took the Skinner off. Was thinking about moving it forward, which would require either me or a gunsmith drilling/tapping another hole. Then, the light bulb went off!!! I could turn the sight around and remount it. There would then be enough room to install the scope mounts. One in front of the Skinner and one behind it. Worked like a charm. Will have to re-sight everything this weekend.

I have installed the Skinner barrel mount peep sights on all of my centerfire Henry's. I am well satisfied with them.

I just ordered barrel-mount Skinner sights for my Golden Boy .22 Magnum. My problem is this: I normally shoot right-handed but am left-eye dominant. Also, when I had cataract surgery, I had two different focal length lenses put in my eyes. The left sees distance clearly and my right eye sees up close clearly. This is fine for my handguns. I simply shoot right-handed but left eyed and the front sight is crystal clear and the back sight is slightly out of focus. Perfect! With my rifle, I have two sights set fairly far apart. When I shoot right-handed, the back sight is clear but the front sight is very blurry. Shooting left handed does the opposite. Since I would rather have the front sight in focus, I have adopted left-handed shooting. But the little v-notch in the buckhorns is hard for my left eye to bring into focus. I'm hoping the Skinner sights will be better than the buckhorn when out of focus. Any thoughts on the matter?

I haven't had a chance to shoot mine yet, hopefully will this weekend but just looking through the barrel mount peeps it seems a lot easier to focus on the front sight.

I think it's certainly worth a try, since you look though the barrel mount peep and then ignore and totally focus on the front sight, same as you do a receiver peep. Takes the rear sight out of the equation for focusing. Leaves you with only one thing to focus, namely, the front sight. Don't try to center the front sight in the peep, either. Just look though it and shoot.
