And I noticed the wood checkering on your rifle; it looks very nice. Henry always does a terrific job with that production

update :

we are spending the winter in Texas in our camper .... over the years I've come to know and trust a gunsmith in Conroe, TX .... in mid January we dropped off our Henry 45-70, a Ruger M77 all weather 30-06, and two Remington 11-87's for mods related to reduction in felt recoil .... we will be picking them up and test firing them sometime after Feb 20th .... earlier today I spoke with him about the 45-70 .... he has completed installing a Mercury Recoil Suppressor in the stock and upgrading the OEM recoil pad .... he said that after test firing it before and after the mods using full power, HSM Bear Load Ammunition ===> http://www.cabelas.ca/product/35609/hsm ... ammunition <=== that there is a substantial reduction in felt recoil ..... he compares it to being on par with the felt recoil from a early edition (meaning heavier) Winchester 30-30 .... I'm really looking forward giving it a try in a couple of weeks .... we still plan to have it Mag-Na-Ported in May

in response to Private Message in which a question was posed as to if we followed through and had our 45-70 Mag-Na-Ported, we most certainly did .... comments about it can be found in this thread ===> http://henryrifleforums.com/viewtopic.p ... ort#p42917 .... over the years I've found that several things have a direct influence on felt recoil .... some involve ammo, some related to shooting style, some are a reaction to the shooting situation, some come from modifications to the firearm .... as an example, when pulling the trigger on a deer, boar, bear, goose/duck, dove, squirrel, wild dog, or any other critter, I don't remember experiencing recoil or hearing the muzzle blast .. ;) ..

when it comes to modifications to a rifle, I've consistently found that a combination of mods produced a significant reduction in felt recoil ===> upgrading to the best possible recoil pad, installing a mercury recoil suppressor, and having the barrel Mag-Na-Ported

when it comes to modifications to a shotgun, the same trio above plus honing the forcing cone

when it comes to revolvers and other handguns, upgrading to the best available recoil absorbing grips and Mag-Na-Porting the barrel

when other factors like ammo and circumstances are included, I've seen some truly remarkable drops in felt recoil
