Our Morning Coffee and Weather

Temps in the 90's still. No rain in sight. Never seen it so dry. Fires popping up all over the place keeping local fire guys busy but so far so good. But the heavy smoke from BC continues.

Our cloudy, overcast weather is continuing over here, and there is a lot of rain forecast for later in the day. It sounds like the perfect excuse to head over to the indoor range.

A little clearer today. Not quite as hot. May go to the range this evening and shoot my pistol.

Very smoky this morning. Woke me up. It's actually uncomfortable to breathe. Possible rain next week. Heading out to check on horses. Tea in Henry mug. Stay safe all.

It's a nice 67 degrees this morning. The weatherman said it's going to be overcast most of the day, reaching a high of 83. We had rain showers off and on yesterday, nothing like Houston and the coastal areas. Our thoughts and prayer go out to all our friends, fellow Texans and 1st responders who are dealing with the aftermath of the storms.

Fall is here even though it's 90 during the day. 30's at night. Here's some smoky morning pics at home.

That looks like a beautiful place to be, RR. What is the size of the ranch?

We own a little 10 acre patch but are surrounded by ranch country and mountains. Land prices are astronomical around here.

Update: fire now burning at the northwest corner of Waterton Park on the BC side but has crossed into southwest corner of Alberta. Waterton/Glacier Parks are about an hour or so south of us. The small town of Waterton in the park is on evacuation alert. Voluntary at this point. I'm lining up a plan to move horses out if necessary to a another ranch, and we have started packing up some important items. 72 hr bags etc. I don't expect it to get to us, but this summer you never know. We have a river and a highway between us and that fire, but best to prepare anyway. Not easy to move livestock at a moment's notice. As you can see by the photos I posted it is dry beyond belief. Forecast more days in the 90's and no rain in sight. Wind picking up over the weekend.

Today it's staying mid 60s with a 50/50 chance of rain.

Parks Canada reports that there was no real advancement of the BC fire into Alberta's Waterton Park today, however tomorrow is forecasting winds. So it just depends on where the winds come from. No fire is a good fire but hopefully it will blow deeper into the wilderness if it has to go anywhere. There is a huge team of helicopters and water tankers on standby near the Park. We live on the north end of the Castle wilderness area, and the Castle runs into Waterton/Glacier Parks. Fingers crossed and saying prayers.

I'm up early with a steaming cup of coffee in a Henry mug .... tuned into the latest reports on Hurricane Irma .... its really distressing to hear what the folks in Florida are facing

A mandatory evacuation order was issued to the little town of Waterton this afternoon, and all of those people are reporting to a center in Pincher Creek. Today was the smokiest I've ever experienced. No relief at all. Temps hit 90 again and late this afternoon the wind picked up. Helped with the smoke a little but have not heard yet what it's done to the fire. I pulled the shoes off the horses today to avoid any chance of a steel shoe sparking on a rock. That's all it would take. Other than that we just have to ride it out. It will rain sooner or later, although the Almanac is predicting a dry winter. They predicted a big snowy one last year and they were right. We've had dry ones before, a few years ago I was horseback Jan 1st and it was 65F.

Hope anybody that can't leave the hurricane areas is dug in like an Alberta tick! Thoughts and prayers.

How to spend a smoky, hot day....Badger doesn't look too worried about it.

* Just heard the fire has crossed the Continental Divide and is now burning in Alberta, Waterton Park specifically. Not good.

Our non-existant Summer is definitely over. The mornings and evenings are becoming colder, and it's still raining. I'm beginning to regret selling my boat!

I hope the fires bypass you, RR, and I also hope that everybody who may be affected by Irma remains safe.
