Harvey sure brought us an unexpected and even more unwelcome surprise ... according to breaking news on local TV stations we just had baseball to softball size hail .... we have lived at our current location since 1978 and I've never seen hail anywhere close what just hammered us ..... I can see dents in the hood of the Trailblazer in picture 3 .... not looking forward to checking the others .... in hail broke the clay pot seen in picture 4, made one heck of a racket

Sorry to read about that, JEBar. This superstorm has certainly shaken the country. I've seen hail like that once and know many people whose un-sheltered vehicles and other property were very badly damaged by it. Good luck to you.

Sadly, there is another storm coming in our direction. Irma is on a worrisome course toward our southern and/or eastern borders.
The hurricane season is approaching its peak.

We've been there/done that, but the hail size was not as large. However, it happened just two months after my wife and I bought our first (and only) new car during our marriage. She was at work with the new Pontiac and two severe hail storms hit that day. One while the car was parked at her office; the second caught her as she was driving home. The damage estimate was just shy of the car being totaled. Since it was silver in color, the dents on every upper surface were not as easily visible as would have been on a dark car. So when we received the insurance $$, I paid off the loan, named the car "Dimples," and we drove it for 10 years. But it sure was not a happy happening.

update :

picture below show rear window damage to my wife's Camaro .... my Chevy truck was hammered .... thankfully no glass damage

Hurricane Harvey is gone but most certainly not forgotten .... earlier today an adjuster spent over 4 hours going over our Camaro, Silverado, Trailblazer, and Sportchassis ... we have a $250 deductible on each vehicle so our instant out of pocket expense was $1,000 .... from there :

Camaro --- glass $798.37 / dings $4,074.64

Silverado --- glass $225.20 / dings $5,468.07

Trailblazer --- glass $358.13 / dings $3,332.55

Sportchassis --- glass $554.80 / dings $1,599.53

grand total including our deductible $17,411.37

because of this Harvey related hail storm, the body shop we prefer is understandably backed up .... as of when we spoke with them earlier today, they don't anticipate being able to start on any of our vehicles for at least two months

Friday an insurance adjuster is slated to be here to take a look at our home and garage so this saga is still being written ....

sadly so .... to me the amazing thing is, our bit of Harvey took 10 minutes or so at a time when the eye of the storm was hundreds of miles away .... no doubt our claim is a relatively small one among the hundreds of thousands that will be filed as a result of Harvey .... one hears huge numbers thrown around in discussions of the cost of the damage done by Harvey .... for me, such large numbers can be hard for me to relate to .... breaking it down to numbers I can understand seems to bring things into better focus

two adjusters spent most of this morning going over our place with a fine tooth comb .... bottom line, hail damage to our home and our detached garage comes to $24,500 .... that's knocking on the door of $42,000 .... for me that is an eye opener .... knowing the cost to put our place back in order, when I see news coverage of the total devastation caused by Harvey (and Irma) will come mega dollars on a scale that is hard from me to envision

Come on, JEBar, it's easy to envision.

Picture a million dollars in a crate. OK then imagine putting a thousand of those million dollar crates in a stadium.
Then picture 100 of those stadiums. then double that for both storms and you would have most of the cost (but not all).

We grew up with one black and white TV in a home we owned. Today, we rent our apartments and fill them with $$$$$$ possessions that all have to be replaced when it floods, and it's going to be doing that more often (raining).

I don't know the solution, don't think there is one, and meantime the national debt $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.........

guess my mind hasn't evolved that much .... when it comes to $100, up to a few hundred thousand dollars I can relate .... when it comes to millions and more, my vision get pretty fuzzy ..

the only hail damage to our camper that we have found was repaired earlier today .... the pictures below show the best tech I know of in our area working on top of our camper .... he removed a damaged skylight dome and installed a new one .... in the other pictures the dark OEM dome can be seen .... the silver is Duct Tape that we used to cover the holes until we could replace the dome .... the size of the silver openings shows just how large the hail was

as noted above, back on 9-2-17 Hurricane Harvey "blessed" our area with the worst hail storm folks around here ever remember hitting our area .... up to softball size hail .... the damage to buildings, vehicles, everything outside was extensive .... when we submitted a copy of the appraisal to the body shop where we want to have her Camaro fixed, we were close to 500 on the waiting list and was told there was no way they could get to it until sometime in January .... today, I stopped by to check and we got lucky .... someone scheduled to bring their car in today had just called and cancelled .... ours wasn't next but we were there and they took her Camaro straight back into the shop .... he said it will take a day or so before to determine how long it will take .... much depends on determining if the hood and other body panels have to be replaced .... it has been arranged for us to take them my Chevy pickup when they finish the Camaro and then our daughters Suburban when they finished the truck ..... at best we might get to see her car repaired before we leave for Texas on Jan 5th
