Loading for BBS 357

Anybody had any luck with a good full power load using 125 JSPs and H110?

Never tried it, but I suspect they be fun to shoot from a BIg Boy. I could be completely wrong, but I wonder how accurate they'd be? Pushing a light, short bullet like that at .30-30 speeds? Be impressive if it's an accurate load.

looking forward to hearing your reports .... when it comes to full power, hunting level loads, we use Nosler 158 gr JHP's pushed by 14.8 g. of W296 or 15.9 g. of H110 .... when it comes to practice/paper punching rounds, I'm open to trying most anything on the market ....

Wow, that looks great. I'm using my BBS 357 to hunt coyotes so I don't really need 158 gr bullet. In addition I was hoping to flatten out the trajectory.

The bottom picture with the milk jug is out at 200 yards. Not bad for a pistol cartridge in a rifle with a 20 inch barrel with a 6-24x50mm scope.

I just experimented loading some Sierra 125 JSP starting at 21gr and proceeding up to 21.8 in .2gr increments.
The min load of 21gr and the upper load of 21.8gr produced the best accuracy.
The 21 gr load was producing 2200 fps but unfortunately my Chrono battery died before getting a velocity reading on the 21.8 load.

I have never loaded the 357 with less than 158 grain bullets. Need to try it myself.

The 125gr bullet gave me the velocity that I was after. People will say 125gr is not enough bullet to put a animal down. My response is....125gr is sufficient or adequate enough if one can deliver a head shot each time.

There is a big difference in using a 125gr bullet for a deer vs a 35 lbs coyote.

in my mind, out to 100 yards, a 125 placed in the kill zone will do just that .... personally, I favor the 158 but I wouldn't hesitate to hunt with a 125

I've been using a 35gr bullet from my .204 to kill coyotes for years. I think a 125gr will do the trick no problem.

well understood when it comes to matching the firearm to the game and circumstances .... historically, when it comes to deer hunting rifles, I have favored 30 caliber .... depending on the setting I would take a 30-30, 308, 30-06, or 300 WBY out of the vault .... with hand guns I'd grab a 357 or most of the time a 44 mag .... under other circumstances, a 12 ga shotgun .... as a meat hunter I preferred neck or head shots but I wouldn't hesitate taking whatever shot presented the highest probability of a quick, one shot kill .... that's nothing special, its pretty much standard among the guys I hunt with .... I haven't hunted during the time I've owned our Henry rifles but under the right circumstances, wouldn't hesitate to do so

Not a JSP, but this is what I got from my BBS carbine using a 125 gr XTP with 21 grains of h110. This is close to the Hodgdon stated velocity for an 18.5 inch barrel.
