Put a sock on it!

Post by Squatch » Sat Jul 29, 2017 1:26 pm

One of the best ways to protect your Henry or any other firearm is to keep it in a gun sock when not being used.

I just bought 1/2 a dozen Henry gun socks off the web site.

They just came in. Not quite what I was expecting. Most guns socks are loose extra soft sacks. These are long, narrow, tight and stretchy and a little coarser fabric than I expected. They'll have to be slid on like a tight pair of socks. I haven't tried them yet for fit. Probably later this evening.

Has anyone else tried these yet?

Not yet. But it sure sounds like a good idea. Thank you

I use these for my handguns and rifles.

The Allen site says yes to scope fit

My 1860 goes in a real nice gun sock after every outing. It's stored in the sock inside my buckskin rifle sheath.

I did buy a sock for one of my scoped rifles, but it just wouldn't expand enough, so it either went into the bits box somewhere, or it went out in the trash. Shame, really, because I'm sure that they would help to avoid 'cabinet rash'.

I put all my guns in them yesterday. They should call these stockings instead of socks. They have to be put on that way. I have big sights and a black knob on my Skinners. I had to work the sock over them. I'm more used to similar to what CT shows above. That said they fit tightly and will indeed keep down cabinet rash.

I personally wouldn't use these with a scope on the rifle. it would be very tight.

I got an Allen rifle sock. It's perfect for lever action rifles.

Another vote for Bore Stores, I have them on all three of our Henry's. Allen work ok, but the Bore Stores are thicker to prevent bump damage in the safe.

I wonder if one could be made out of an old pair of jeans?

I have some of those stretchy socks, too, though they don't say Henry. Personally, I hate them. They are a real chore to get on and off the gun. Even without a scope, they hang up on the sights and things get very tight around the lever on a lever gun. With a scoped gun, they are even more of a pain. I MUCH prefer the non-stretchy type of socks.

All I've ever used are the Bore Stores long gun and handgun bags. The guns all stay really nicely stored in them, and no problems at all with bumping/scratching the firearms in and out of the cabinet. And I liked the material so well I also got one of their gun rugs, and have used it a lot when cleaning or working especially on my handguns.

They work really well for me; will keep on with Bore Stores products. ;)
