History Over Head
History Over Head
Tonight after dinner, I heard an unmistakable "droning" up in the sky, and went outside to look. Passing overhead were the world's two remaining airworthy B-29 Superfortresses, "Doc" and "Fifi." What a beautiful sight. The two Boeings were in formation with a third plane, which was possibly a Fairchild AT-21.
I've seen B-17's in the air before, but never a B-29. Two see two of them flying in formation is a once in a life time treat.

Very cool ditto.
At one time the worlds most powerful weapon.
That must be a horrific sound if you're the enemy.

Neat! I had to look it up to see which model you saw (I admit I do not know my planes). Very cool piece of history!

Re: History Over Head
I would have loved to have seen that.
You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.
I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

Re: History Over Head
We had one of those sights here lately. Not the B 29 but had a B 24 and a P 51 flying around here in the Greeley Ft Collins area. I was driving down I 25 and got a quick glimpse of it and it also flew by our office then next day. I also enjoy seeing the old warbirds especially in person. Al

Re: History Over Head
Cool experience.
I got to see the B-24 and the B-17 when it visited my area back in '06.
Of course I had to also wait till late in the day to see the B-24 take off, right in front of us to boot.
The B-24 is pretty special to me as my Dad was a Nose Gunner in a B-24J.

Ive been to many air shows here locally and in Seattle. I remember seeing quite a few of the old war birds. One of my favorite shows was in Broomfield Colorado. Greg Pappy Boyington was there autographing his book Baa Baa Black Sheep. I bought one along with a pic of the old corsair and had him autograph it. I still have the book and the photo somewhere around here. To me this era that these planes represent was the greatest genertion that this country will ever have. Al
