Howdy from Houston
Howdy from Houston
New H010 owner. Purchased in December 2016.
I have about 100 rounds through the rifle now, and have about another 100 loaded up.
I have run 300gr Hornady, 350gr Meister cast, 430gr Ranch Dog cast so far. Have Remington 300gr, 350gr Ranch Dog and 350gr Hornady on deck waiting to be tested.
This Henry is my third 45-70. First two were both Ruger No. 1...the first of them was purchased in June of 1975.
I have been handloading 45-70 since 1975...but it was never a high volume round for me. That might change somewhat with this Henry! The rifle is a blast to shoot. My records show I am just shy of 1,000 rounds loaded for the 45-70 to date. Everything from round balls with 7 grains of Green Dot to 53 grains of 3031 and a 500gr Hornady (RUGER NO 1 ONLY!!!).
I did put a Skinner sight on this rifle. I had a Skinner on a Marlin Cowboy 38-55 and felt like it was a worthwhile addition. No scope for me on these rifles...I have bolt guns that wear scopes. I want my 45-70 lever gun to retain the handling characteristics that make it special!
Looking forward to wandering the forums and learning from everyone here.
Tim

Great another 45-70 fanatic. I have let me see I think I have 4 of them. 2 Henrys a CCH and an All weather. I have a Browning 1886 1 of 3000 High Grade with a matchin knife and a 1886 Chiappa Ridgerunner. I love the all weather and cant wait to shoot it again. I have about 70 rounds of test loads loaded to see what she likes. Welcome aboard. Al
