Growing A Pineapple

Post by CT_Shooter » Sun Jun 11, 2017 5:29 pm

A few years ago, I took the green top off of a Dole Pineapple and rooted it in water, then planted it it in a fairly small pot. A few months ago, I transplanted it in to a larger clay pot, about 8" or so. It's a really cool looking plant in the living room window; in fact, it's the centerpiece. Today, as I watered it I saw that it's about to fruit. We have a Pineapple growing in our living room!

If I remember right from my tour of the Dole plantation it's a 3yr process to grow one.

Very nice centerpiece, and a great idea to do that, CT!
It will be fun to see how large the fruit finally grows to.

Very true. That's pretty cool, just the green top? Very nice.

Cool deal.
Funny thing. Lived on Oahu three years, never took the tour. Lol. Spent most of my free time under water.

Yes. I sliced the green top off of the pineapple, then scraped most of the remaining fruit from it and placed it in clean water until it rooted. It didn't take too long. I was surprised and pleased that it grew and liked being in the window, but I never expected it would bear fruit.
