Trapper models in 30-30 , .35 remington, 358 and 375

Being a native Northeast Pa. hunter, I would love to see a trapper model made in the old reliables. 30-30, .35 Remington, 358 winchester and the .375 winchester. I've always hunted with my Remington pump 7600 in 3006, but also own a Winchester 94 ae in 3030 and truly love the gun. I'm fortunate that I get to hunt Maine for 2 weeks and Pa for another 2 weeks every fall. So with all this hunting, I've been using my Trapper 3030 in pa. and it's a real deer getter. I really enjoy using the Trapper because it's small and really handy. But also it's just really neat. Even though I use my 3006 in maine, I'm thinking I'm going to start toting my trapper in peruse of the maine giants. Hopefully some good discussion on this topic. Love talking guns.

welcome to our community .... I have my grandfather's early edition Model 94 30-30 and do enjoy firing it .... we also have a Henry 357, 44 Mag, 45-70 .... I've found they share the same positives you listed for the '94 .... the ballistics for our 357 hand loads, at distances up to 100 yards, are impressive when stacked up against factory 30-30's .... for those who prefer a 30-30, Henry does offer that caliber, their Long Ranger is a fine example .... looking forward to your future post and exchanging info

Sounds like you have come to the conclusion that the intangibles are very important, when choosing a rifle to hunt with.

Rifle A might make the most sense in terms of ballistics, lead in the kill zone, etc. But if rifle B give you the warm fuzzies and makes you feel like you are hunting with a buddy, then what the heck...you sacrifice some of one thing to get more of another.

It isn't like most of us will starve if we have to pass on a shot.

Remember the old Nissan truck ads..."Don't you buy no ugly truck"?

I no longer want to hunt with ugly rifles. I even prefer that they fire cartridges that were designed prior to 1900 if possible!

Heading to a gun show tomorrow. I might have to find me a Wildlife Brass in 30-30....

Love short barrel, handy rifles, too. Trappers with just legal 16.25" barrels in those calibers are actually quite efficient. Very little velocity loss compared to 20" barrel carbines. Back when I was shooting a Contender pistol with a 14" barrel, I could get velocities very similar to a Marlin 336 30-30 with a 20" barrel.

Some good ideas here except that to me since I have a 358 Savage 99, anything in 35 Remington would not be needed as I can always load the 358 down.
