I like Henry rifles and S&W revolvers

Post by Trooper Joe » Tue May 16, 2017 10:01 am

Just found this section in the Henry Forum.

Here is a nice tapered barrel model 10.

Image

This heavy barrel model 10 is just like the one I was issued in 1966 when I joined the Michigan State Police.

Image

This model 36 heavy 3´barrel would be a great off duty gun (still is a nice gun to carry in the right holster).

Image

This "L" frame model 581 does a fantastic job with .357 Magnum rounds. Don't worry at all about shooting heavy rounds in it.

Image

This model 15 is a great companion for a 30-30 carbine for patrol in the 60s. (I just picked up a .357 Steel Carbine which will take the place of this Marlin Youth model 30-30.)

Image

This model 66 with the Michigan State Police logo on the right side, was issued to Troopers who shot distinguished expert (not me I bought this from the widow of our range officer).

That's a great collection of revolvers, Joe, and some of them have interesting histories, too. Thanks for sharing them with us. Image

Beautiful revolvers, Joe, and welcome to the forum. You may want to introduce yourself in the new members section. Also,is a thread where you can add your new Henry to the "muster" total.

Very nice looking revolvers! I have never had the pleasure of owning a Smith & Wesson revolver.

Well, we all know that Clovispup and I both love Henrys. I also have a newer model 10. It shoots great and as excellent fit and finish. Clovispup just got a Ruger SP101 in .357. Fit and finish isn't quite as nice as the Smith, but it is built like a tank, and shoots extremely well.

So, we have several bases covered.

This model particularly caught my attention -- very sharp-looking revolver. All-around nice metal finish, and the wood grips look really great! Your entire collection is very cool. 8-)

As your MSP issue in '66, did you find it easy or challenging to master the model 10 with rear fixed sight? I have one .22LR S/A action revolver with a fixed sight (paired with my Henry SGC), and my derringer has the same. The S&W LCRX revolver I recently acquired has an adjustable rear sight with a front blade ramp. Haven't yet decided, which I like better.

But whichever one I use, it's always great fun to shoot a revolver! :D

No problem with the fixed sight model 10.

My favorite gun to shoot, bar none, is a fixed rear sight Smith and Wesson .38 or .357 revolver.

The first revolver I ever shot was a .357 S&W model 581. I have passed on a few 681s that I should not have. (681 is the stainless twin of the 581)
