rifle in 45-70. It is the walnut and blued steel receiver model - HO1O.

We special ordered it from our dealer this week.

I will let you know how he likes it.

He has been shooting on an almost daily basis too.

Cool rifle, Cate. Will you try out the new Henry, too?

Your husband will be joining a fairly large group of .45-70 owners on the Forum. I bet they will look forward to your comments/review of this rifle. Congrats and enjoy!

And what a beautiful photo of the shooting center entrance....great-looking country you live in!

Congratulations - great choice for a Henry - can load mild to wild for it. I bet your husband will love it - even when he isn't shooting it. I've got my H010CC sitting on a home-made stand on the family room coffee table so I can pick it up and cycle it routinely....Are you going to use factory ammo or reload?

Thanks for the compliment on the range.

I don't know if I will try this one out even though I shot one of his former, much older CT Marlin, classic, 45-70 rifles years ago before my arthritis and old accident issues got WORSE.

He made a special load for me way back when and he is willing to do this for me again. He has reloaded for me in the past even though I brought my own CF and RF ammunition with me when I moved out west and when I used to own/shoot/carry several calibers years ago. My former firearms.

He has reloaded for over 40 years too. I do not reload, I never reloaded, and I mainly shoot 22lr firearms now - old posts/threads here.

My husband has owned and shot 45-70 rifles almost his entire adult life. We are in our 60's.

Take care!

Cool on your firearm!

My husband will reload for this rifle since he reloads for all of his CF firearms. We have a bit of CF ammunition 'on hand' for his 30-30 rifle and his 45acp pistols too.

I do not reload. One thing that he always liked about that 45-70 caliber was that you can vary the loads. He explained that to me years ago. Plus I help/helped him get various products over the years when he consolidated a BUNCH of firearm calibers. (I did the same thing over the years too.)

Take care!

Actually, he always shot a LOT and often shy of the last few years due to his 24/7 crazy hours before retirement. He still made a point to get to the range to keep up his skills as I did and do. He couldn't compete with his club due to his schedule change for some time.

He and I shot/shoot year round but I did not shoot much this past winter. I did not want to stand on ICE with or without my cane! I still have to use my cane on and off depending on the day.

Take care!

Cate, that does look like lovely gun. I've tried the 45-70 in several lever guns and just has to throw in the towel as far as handling the recoil on anything but the mild loads. Funny how I can take nasty recoil in handguns, but not in rifles. The problem is that I bruise too easily. Even a 30-30 can leave me black and blue in the shoulder if I'm not careful as to how I hold it. That hefty looking recoil pad on the Henry BBS, though, tempts me to give the Henry a try. We'll see.

Hi Lady!

I can relate to only using milder loads in a 45-70 when I tried out one former rifle of my husband's.

I used to be able to shoot stronger loads in my former handguns (Several calibers.) and in some that I did not own when I shot handguns in the past. I personally do not like Super strong or Hot loads in handguns or rifles. So I did not shoot them in my guns or in another gun not owned by me. I like what is suggested for the specific gun. So I basically shot what was suggested and only shot a stronger load IF it could be handled by the gun according to the manufacturer and by me.

Take care!

My husband picked up his new HENRY rifle on Thursday.

It is a beautiful rifle and slick.

He hopes to shoot it within the next few days.

I will let you know how it shoots for him.

My husband shot his new HENRY rifle on Friday and it shot great!

He will shoot it on Sunday if he has something else to do on Saturday.
