Welcome to the forum from the lower CT River, Youngguns. You've found a great place to learn more about your Henry and share stories with like minded folks. I look forward to reading more from you, especially if you have an opportunity to hunt on private property with your Henry.

Welcome to the Henry family...
I have been thinking of that very same rifle myself, to add to the two Henrys I already have... but it's been a while since i've seen a moose, elk, or T-rex here in central VA. LOL. Ah, just kiddin, if I bought one, it would be just because.... and for the Biga Boom.
You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on getting your first Henry.

Since you asked for input on the .45-70, I will give my preferences (I have Henry's steel version .45-70)

1. I prefer iron sights but not crazy about the buckhorn sight. I bought a Skinner barrel mount sight and replaced my front sight with the same type sight but with a smaller brass bead.

2. I have only shot one box of factory ammo through mine. It was Remington 300 grain JHP and was flawless. I reload all my ammo except .22 rimfire.

3. I have loaded some hot rounds but prefer an upper end trapdoor load for everyday shooting. My present preferred load is a 405 grain coated hard cast bullet from MBC over 30.0 grains of H4198 powder.

4. When using a sling, I prefer the 1 1/4" sling from Montana Sling (Sinclair Manufacturing)

There are other .45-70 shooters here and some also reload. I am sure some will share their preferences shortly.
