Henry Wood and the Long Ranger

I've read most of the posts about the Long Ranger models. And I have noticed how often those who now have a Henry 223, 243, or 308 share their comments about the wood on these rifles.

I don't have one of these rifles, but did have the chance to handle one at our KS Cabelas store today. In their rifle racks, they had all three calibers on hand, all models were without sights. Excellently put together, and what a very smooth lever action and trigger pull.

Mainly, I want to comment on the wood stock and forearms on these Henry Long Rangers. The American Walnut wood Henry builds on these rifles is beyond beautiful !!! The very quality photo of the Long Rangers on the Henry web site https://www.henryusa.com/rifles/the-long-ranger/ does not do justice to seeing/handling this wood in person. As you browse your LGS and a Henry is displayed, you'll see what I mean.

PT7....I think you have hit the nail on the head. Every example of a Long Ranger that I've seen actual pictures of has wood that is far better than on the vast majority of HRA rifles. I really REALLY want a .41 magnum Big Boy with brass receiver but I ADORE rifles with a nice piece of wood. Once the .41 mags are actually available if they don't seem to have the same quality wood as the Long Rangers I may wind up buying a .308 Long Ranger. Why not? I'll still have my .357 for everyday range shooting and a .308 levergun would really do any type of hunting in all North America. DECISIONS DECISIONS!!!

I recently grabbed a LR in .308 and also do some photography on the side. The first chance I get, I plan to take it outside in some good lighting and get some photos to share here. It really is gorgeous. I haven't shot it yet, but literally can't stop myself from handling it every night when I get home from work. It just looks and feels so nice in your hands. Definitely a head turner.

Another acute case of "new Henryitus". There is no known cure other than buying another new Henry and handling that one every night...

Generally speaking with Henry, the more expensive the model, the better the wood. And yes, they do get some purty wood.
