Welcome, I have mostly shot handguns, and LE type long guns, but a friend on my woodworking forum posted a thread about his Henry, and I was hooked. Here in Va 22 ammo is coming down in price and becoming readily available again. Good news for us. The wife actually uses it here on the little farm.

Ahhhhh....from Va. Lived there for 22 years then made a wrong turn on 95 and have been stuck behind enemy lines ever since. Retiring in a few years and as soon as that is official I'll be back below the Mason-Dixon as fast as my car can go!

If you get down this way for business, or on vacation, send me a PM and perhaps we can get together. I have a fifty yard range just behind the house here on the farm, and I have plates, poppers, and other steel I can set up, as well as various target stands and frames. I practised for my PPC matches here, taught classes, and even brought department officers out for requals if both the main range and the swat deck were backed up.

If I recover okay from my fall last September I plan to add a hundred yard range within the year... I'm retired... and shooting, fly fishing, and woodworking are all I have these days...

I thank you Sir for the kind invite. Been meaning for a while to get back to Va for a week in the summer to do a canoe trip down the Rapidan and Rappahanock like I used to do when I lived in Fredericksburg. Perhaps I'll take you up on the offer one of these days.

that's a beautiful area .... one of our favorite campgrounds is the Thousand Trails on the Rappahanock near Gloucester .... we are booked to spend 3 weeks there in early October .... we really enjoy the fall colors up there during that time of year

I currently own a Big Boy Steel in 41, Freedom Arms, Smith 657 Power port and a Ruger blackhawk. I have loaded for the 41 for quite sometime. I use mostly Unique. 2400 is also a favorite when I need a bommer load. I have used Berrys Missouri Cast and I have some gas check 210 swc that I bought from a guy in AZ that was casting on another forum. Right now I am using between 7.5 and 8 grs of unique for most of my plinkin loads. I would like to try some Rainer 220 rnfp but I have so many bullets now i need to shoot some of those up before I buy more. The 45 colt Henry I have is a carbine model and I reallly like the shorter barrel. I will be shooting the 41 alot more when my carbine comes in. Al

They are both beautiful rivers to paddle. Back in the '90s you could rent a canoe in Fredericksburg and they would transport you 28 miles up the Rapidan to a put in spot. Then you paddled down the Rapidan, through the confluence of the Rapidan and Rappahanock back to Fredericksburg. Most of the land on both sides along the way was public, lumber company or other semi-public. I'd take my time and do the 28 miles over 4 days fishing for smallmouth and crappie all along the way. Camped every night on the side of the river. There was even a rope swing over the river in a few spots and they were GREAT on a hot summer day. GOOD TIMES!

WOW! I find this forum 1 night and the very next night I find a guy that really knows the .41 magnum! HOW COOL IS THAT? Once I can get my grubby little paws on a brass Big Boy in .41 magnum I will be picking your brain a lot Al. I'm so excited about getting a Henry in .41 mag I just know that my 2 .357 leverguns (Henry and Rossi) are already getting jealous!

We haven't fished the rapidan, but we have often made the Scottsville to Hardware or Bremo to Columbia floats in our kayaks, working the James river for Smallmouth bass. I caught a beautiful citation smallie just above Hardware several years ago on my fly rod. 20.5 inches if I remember correctly... and he towed me UP stream.

Health kept me out of the kayaks much of the last couple years, but I spent months tying flies after the broken femur. We are signed up for a kayak fishing charity tourney in late May. Miss Tina was the tournament director for this tournament for six years, we plan to fish it this year if my fishing partner is mr. percocet.

I KNOW you are going to have a BLAST! As an aside, do you have a short handle you like to go by? BrokenolMarine is a touch long to type. If anyone is interested I go by 2few or Kris.
