Official 2017 Major League Baseball Thread
The regular season opens on April 2nd with 3 games. The Yankees have a very good preseason record, but that will probably mean very little when the regular season gets underway. They have a lot of good young talent but may still be a year or two from the playoffs. I was happy to see them get Aroldis Chapman back from the Cubs, for a top reliever spot. Already, their starting shortstop, Didi Gregorious, has suffered an injury and could miss a month and a half. We shall see how they perform as the season progresses. How does your team stack up?

I fully expect my twins and rockies to strive for mediocrity but alas come up short again!

Hoping for the Tigers to "step up to the plate!" Relief pitching seems to be our downfall last couple of years.

My buddy's son found out today that he's made the Phillies' opening-day roster! What a thrill for the family. Brock is the oldest of three sons. The middle son, Max, has already had a few cups of coffee as a catcher with the Astros. They're all just outstanding human beings.

Nice article, I am happy for him. I used to live closer to Philly. When I was a kid I used to attend their games at the old long gone Connie Mack Stadium. I believe there is a park there now. Then in the 1970's and 1980's I would take the kids to Veterans Stadium which is long gone too and now there is the parking lot in it's place for the new stadium, Citizens Bank Park. I can't remember all the number of games and good times I had, watching the Phillies play ball. And I also spent a lot of time watching their AA and AAA teams play in Reading and Allentown Pa. They still have some rebuilding to do to become really competitive but I believe they will be better in a few years.

Even though I was on the other coast, I watched those teams quite a bit. I used to love watching Greg Luzinski hit. He'd just hold the bat right in front of his chest, take that short, compact swing and KABOOM!!!Deadwood Dutch wrote:Then in the 1970's and 1980's I would take the kids to Veterans Stadium which is long gone too and now there is the parking lot in it's place for the new stadium, Citizens Bank Park.
Also, Garry Maddox could flat-out run down balls in center field. And then there was the great Mr. Schmidt. And the great Mr. Carlton.
Those teams should've won more than they did.

Thanks for throwing out the first ball in this thread, Dutch.
My wife (especially her) and I are looking forward to watching the KC Royals play this season. And whenever televised here, we'd like to watch the Cubbies play, too. After the Royals 2015 WS win, and the Cubbies 2016 WS win, we would sure enjoy a 2017 WS between these two teams.
One never knows....

Why no baseball thread this year?
Is it due to the utter dominance of the L.A. Dodgers? Whew, baby! – they're 91-36 and their ace hasn't pitched in a month.
Really looking forward to seeing what the postseason has in store.

Yeah, my rockies started out hot as can be and then fell to the Dodgers.

Thanks for getting the baseball chats all on the same playing field, JEBar.
Last April, I thought that Deadwood Dutch's NYY ballcap photo was really cool as he "threw out the first ball for this season." I still watch the KC Royals play this year, but don't catch every game, every minute of play, like my wife did!! Should get back into their games schedule and keep closer tabs as October approaches.

Re: Official 2017 Major League Baseball Thread
KC Royals are running right in the middle of the AL stats after their win over the Twins yesterday --- at .500 season record, and behind for the wild card game by 2-1/2 games. Hard to believe the ALDS starts on October 6th; only a month away. This time of the season is a lot of fun. October baseball is easily in sight!
