Home Sweet Home
The house is mostly back together after the hardwood floor install. It had to cure before I could put the rugs back down and I needed to put the rugs down before putting all the furniture back. What this really means is all the boxes in the hobby room are now gone and I can actually walk around in the room and find stuff.
Donna's death was expected and it was a relief when she actually passed. For the most part I just went on like nothing happened and I never really felt grief. I hate to say it but I just realized I was mad at her for dying. How could she do that to me? It took me about two months to realize it wasn't her idea. Going though boxes of a lifetime together was difficult but that is mostly done now. I was finally able to cry.
The paperwork involved was a lot more than what I was expecting. I had Quite Deed Claims and Social Security paperwork to do along with what seemed dozens of other forms to fill out. Getting a letter from Social Security notifying me their records show she was now deceased didn't seem necessary. But the letter also contained a form for me to fill out to get the surviving benefits. Don't think I'm due any but filled it out anyway.
Now I am facing the future all alone and I need to adjust. I've been walking the Tolt Pipeline but I do that alone. The time to socialize is now. I'm rounding up some of the regular YMCA hikers and we are going to do some hikes on our own till the Y hikes are in season. Remember it still is winter.
Starting March 20th I will be hiking twice a week. One of the places I'm going to hike is near the firearm range so I might be doing both on the same day. I do want to get back to shooting. Now that the house is mostly back together I think I can do that now.
In the meantime I'm going to try to post more.

I hadn't heard till now Gene. I'm sorry for the loss of the love of your life. Know that those thoughts and feelings are part of the "normal" grieving process. The two of you have been in my thoughts and prayers for awhile, and you will continue to be. Stay busy.

Your friends are here for you, Gene, and that's a lot of them. Really do miss your shooting reports. Get back to them when you are ready, though.

PEACE TO YOU !!
The disarray of the house probably helped keep your interest from the thought process. It's good to let things sink in to be dealt with.
Now put your mind on the target

Good to hear from you, Gene. Going through a loss like that- well, hard doesn't even begin to describe it. While everyone handles things differently, I think talking about it with others is something that really helps. Re-doing your house was also a really good idea.
Spring is just around the corner. Hope we can look forward to some good range reports from you soon. I particularly enjoy the Henry vs. CZ ones.

Gene you have been in my thoughts the last few days. Having gotten to know you for the last few years I knew you would find strength when you needed it. I also knew that you would find your way back to enjoy your life. Getting back on the trail with friends is a great idea. I look forward to your photos and trail reports.

Re: Home Sweet Home
Thanks everyone. It does make it easier when I have some place to come chat. And I can now get to the computer without stepping over boxes. Of course those boxes are now just on the bed where I can't sleep now. Yesterday I went through two file boxes shredding papers. I went through my life of resume's. Yes I could have done it in an hour but I had to stop and read them and remember what was going on in my life at the time.
I'm still spending half my days throwing stuff out. The other half is spent shopping for antiques.

I'm sensing a bit of calm and peace surrounding you. I remember going back over old paperwork of sorts before pitching. It's memories and triggered events no one can ever take from us.

Good to hear that you'll be hiking with some 'regulars'!
Wish we lived closer, I'd love to go to the range with ya!

Re: Home Sweet Home
A good thing, crying always brings welcome comfort in loss. If a person doesn't ever cry, they really should. This is God's wonderful and natural design to help us let go of any bottled-up hurts/pain, and it is most beneficial for a more serene life. You are both on the right hiking path and life path, Gene. Glad so many Henry Forum Folk are right there with you! Take good care.

These are not tears...
They are the soul of my heart
and along with them bears
all my feelings and pain;
they are fearless,
they are courageous,
and unlike me
are bold enough;
They silently tell others
what I couldn't dare
about my feelings
and also about
the few things
that were
left unsaid....
