Gander Mountain filed brankruptcy
Gander Mountain filed Friday for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Somewhere around 30+ stores shutting down. The one where I live is included.
Never was able to buy any firearms at GM, prices just way out of my budget. Did over pay a couple times for some 22mag ammo, it was the only place I could find it at the time..

Re: GM filed brankruptcy
a bit more info :
"Gander Mountain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization on Friday. Gander Mountain, the nation's largest chain of outdoors specialty stores, filed Friday for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection from its creditors with the aim of selling the business.
The company, which is seeking a buyer, said it will be closing 32 of its 162 stores in the next few weeks.
Gander also filed for bankruptcy Friday for Overton's Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary in North Carolina that sells boating gear and outdoor equipment through the internet and catalog sales. Gander tried selling Overton's last year to help the company address its financial problems, but no buyer was found."

The one about 5 miles from me is not on the list. I do shop there occasionally for ammo and some clothing.

Re: GM filed brankruptcy
the Gander Mountain store in Raleigh, NC is on the list to be closed .... we have shopped at one of their stores in Texas but I have to admit that I've never been to the one in Raleigh .... the ones we have seen were more like Dick's than Cabela's or Bass Pro .... from what we saw, their items on sale were reasonably priced .... those not on sale were to expensive for our pocketbook

Hopefully they will survive.
Also hate to see another one go.
I agree their Guns are too high, including used, but I have got some pretty good Ammo deals there. Both online and at the store.
Luckily I have heard that the one near me is staying open.

My first attempt at a pic, hope it works. Was shopping for these a year back, found them online for $12.99/box. I'm all about makein a profit just don't do me like that. Left a bad taste in my mouth. Haven't been in one since. Doubt I ever will.

We also have a Bass Pro Shop. But they don't have the on hand inventory of guns that GM has. I bought my Henry 22mag at BPS in 2012, it was the only place in town that had one.

You should change the title to Gander Mountain files for bankruptcy.

Re: GM filed brankruptcy
I don't like any business to file bankruptcy, if for no other reason that it hurts the employees. In this case GM just priced their firearms way too high. With the internet, a shopper can see what an item is selling for elsewhere. Recently, I was looking to buy my Henry. As I was going to be near a Bass Pro Shop, Cabela's and GM (near Denver), I checked their websites, GM was clearly the highest. While Cabela's is high, at least if you show them someone else has the same item for less they say they will match the price. I never took advantage of that, but when I asked if GM matches prices, they said no on guns. This is clearly on management for not recognizing that people can easily shop on line to see prices and availability. Anyway the (near) Denver store is staying open.

Must be difficult to compete with online retailers. Although they also sell online...
Bought my first pistol at a Gander Mountain in Western Pennsylvania about 12 years ago.

I like their brand of fishing items. I haven't bought a gun or ammunition from them that I recall.

Yes, buying online is usually a lot less money, but the draw (for the wife and me) is that everything is available to see and try on (shoes, clothes, etc.) at stores like GM, Cabela's or Bass Pro Shop. We drive to Cabela's in Sidney, NE to get out of the house and take a ride. We can see what we what and find stuff we didn't know we wantedJCN wrote:Must be difficult to compete with online retailers. Although they also sell online...
