Henry Personalized Serial Numbers

Post by ditto1958 » Fri Mar 10, 2017 8:06 pm

Many of you may be aware that Henry has a limited time feature where you can order a new Henry with the serial number of your choosing. While at first glance, it's a cool idea, I'm also more than a little conflicted about it. I don't usually sell guns; I just buy more. And more. And more... well, you get the picture. :) But suppose I did have a Henry and wanted or even needed to sell it. If the serial number on my Henry was, oh, say "HAROLDS45LC," I'm thinking that could put a damper on resale value.

I suppose a custom serial number wouldn't have to have a person's name in it, but I'm thinking most buyers would not be all that interested if the custom number was BB01041948, or something like that.

There is a seller on GunBroker who has ordered a batch of Henry's with custom serial numbers with people's names in them. I'm a bit tempted to get one, but I'm afraid the catch would be that it would not be easy to sell. And heck, Harold is not even my name! :)

How does the pricing typically compare to your local gunshop?

we custom ordered a Henry 357 with his first name and the year as its serial number .... I don't think it would be a big issue for me because over the years we've bought a bunch of firearms and don't ever recall looking at the serial number prior to purchase and in most cases haven't looked at them after purchase ....

I had 2 American Derringer one with a # 45LC410 which was the caliber 45 Long Colt / 410 and another one which had a #45ACP serial number which matched the caliber 45 auto . Cost only $25 each for special serial from American Derringer back in the 70's ................. Sold them both to a buddy in Tn

I purchased one in 2015 and could not be happier. Mine was my surname 2015 and will be my grandsons when he is old enough. I will designate this Henry .44 mag. as the family heirloom gun to keep in the family and to be passed down to keep shooters and hunters in the family. Just think it is pretty cool to have you surname and year on your heirloom rifle.
