New Range Report

Went to the range agains today and had blast. That Big Boy 357 is so easy and fun, but I do not have to tell y'all.

I used a variety of ammo in 357's and this time brought some 38's in 158gr. I gotta tell ya, shooting 38's out that rifle made me chuckle to myself. The 357's are like "bang bang bang" and the 38's are pike "puff puff puff" - no kidding!

The 357's landed better on the paper @ 75 feet than the 38's. The 38's seemingly shot a bit higher, not sure if it was me or not. Regardless, I hit the paper consistently with both rounds.

I still need to think about Skinner sight, but I really do not want to change anything right now. It's too good looking the way it is. For now I'll continue to squint. I might look up an eye doctor and see about shooting glasses; progressives are a bit rough.

I did just as well if not a tad better than my first outing.

Hey, that's great that you do so well with the factory sights, Ziggidy. Always nice to know even if you go to a peep or even a scope.

Have had lever guns in many centerfire cartridges, but have to say, for the joy of shooting, really is tough to beat a 357, all the more so when shooting 38s. Oh, yeah, you're preaching to the choir, here, but go ahead and preach.

I had the pleasure of shooting one recently that a buddy brought to the range. I can tell you that his rifle is a joy to shoot. We were shooting at clay birds on the 100 yard berm from sandbags on a bench. My buddy was able to hit them about 1 out of every 4 shots. It took me about 8 or 9 tries to do it. Our misses were very close, too. As iron sights go, Henry puts good ones on the Big Boys.

I typically shoot a little higher with 38s as well. The explanation I hear most often is the round moves slower down the barrel which gives the gun more time to rise. I guess I buy it...

I mostly shoot 357 to keep point of impact consistent and Ive found cost isn't much different for how little I shoot.

You cant beat a 357 lever and having fun shooting clays on a bank. I as well shoot 38 specials out of mine and love it. I usually shoot 50 yards off hand at the ditch bank at clays. Did it this last weekend with the 357 and the Henry pump 22. Its a kick. Al
