Get to go shoot the Henry Big Boy today. Looking forward to it.

OK, Clovispup and I do this every other Tuesday in the cool months, but I'm looking forward to it anyway. I've got somewhere in the neighborhood of 150 rounds loaded up. Yes, she will shoot most of them, but hey, watching her have a great time with the Henry is as good as shooting it myself.

Sometimes it's the little things in life.

Sometimes it's the Big (Boy) things.

Must be getting warmer down there in Summerville. It is cool up here in North Carolina today. About 72* hoping that the summer is merciful this year. I hate 100* plus. Okay I hate anything over 78*. Wish I had time to go to the range and envy you big time. Especially the joy of seeing your pup get in some trigger time.

Well, I had to open my big mouth.

After about 50 rounds through the Henry, it started having major feed issues. Since the range/gun store we were at is the store I bought it from, and they have lifetime warranty, I let the gunsmith look at it. He said looked like the issue was the spring on the carrier. I went ahead and left it with him. Might be a few weeks.

Oh well. Stuff happens.

That's a real Bummer, CH. I hope he just sends it back to Henry for a quicker resolution of the problem. A few weeks would be a long wait.

Since they warranty it, I will let them deal with it. He said he might be able to pull it down by the end of the week and order parts if necessary. Depends on if it needs parts, and how long to get them. We don't plan on going back to the range until two weeks from now anyway. It's Skeet next Tues, unless it rains. We can make do with the Ruger, H001, and the Smith model 10 until the Big Boy is back in commission. I could always let her shoot the 30-06 Mauser. That will put her off rifles for a while. Perhaps. She actually deals with recoil pretty well. She did well with the rental 1911 in .45. Last year my buddy asked if she wanted to shoot a Mosin Nagant. She looked at me, and I gave the micro head shake. She took the hint and begged off. Smart kid.

I'm pretty sure it's going to be a simple fix. The carrier isn't acting right and the gunsmith's assessment of a missing spring seems reasonable. It was working perfectly right up until it wasn't. Also a sign that something either broke, bent or popped out of position.

If I didn't have the local warranty, I would have just taken it home and disassembled it for a good clean, lube and inspection. I suspect that would have shown up the problem. If not, a call to Henry would have resolved matters. It's worth a little extra wait not to have the hassle of boxing and shipping, assuming a part shipped from Henry wouldn't have fixed the problem. Too many variables at the time. Just went the safe route. If it does require a trip back to Henry, the LGS will take care of the boxing and shipping. I paid a little more for it there than other stores, but this is one of the reasons why.

Well, got the Henry back from the gunsmith the other day.

He couldn't find anything wrong with it. Said he ran 50 rounds through without a hitch. Was talking to me about holding it upright and operating the lever with authority. Both Clovispup and I are well versed in handling the Henry to optimize smooth feeding. After the first couple hundred rounds, we haven't had a hitch. Both she and I had the same hard jams the day I handed it to the gunsmith.

Going to the range tomorrow, we'll see what happens.

Well, went to the range today. The Henry ran like a finely tuned Swiss watch. I have no idea why I had trouble with it a few weeks ago. Don't know if something was out of place, or some foreign object in there. I may go ahead and do a tear down, clean and lube before next time at the range.

In other news today Clovispup shot the beast today. Columbian mauser in 30-06. She did really well. The recoil wasn't an issue for her. She didn't get scoped. She put 5 rounds in at 25 yds, all touching each other. That's my girl!

Btw, it might be that he took the gun down, cleaned the factory lube out of it, and relubed.
I had some fails to feed initially with my 357 Big Boy Carbine, but after tearing it down,
Cleaning and lubing with Wilsons grease, not a stutter.

Good to see you here my friend. I hadn't noticed any of your posts. BTW, Clovispup and I are still enjoying the LL lever on the H001.

As to him pulling it down and cleaning the factory lube, naw, I did that a while back. I probably have about 3 thousand rounds through it. It's still a mystery as to what happened. It could be I had a handful of reloads that had some issue with them. Seems unlikely as I have run virtually nothing but my reloads through it since it was new, with only a few issues when it was brand new.

Right now my best guess is it was something that got in the works that worked it's way out in the interim.
