Re: All Alone Now
Sir Henry,
I do not know you very well- but I don't have to to feel your pain. Your post's title alone struck me hard, but I found deep beauty in the rawness of your words. It is a wonderful tribute to your late wife and the love you two shared. I think you made us all feel that love you had for her. You can clearly see by all the heartfelt responses that you are not every going to be alone unless you choose to be.
Your writings for us here are proof that you will survive and likely help many others grieve. Writing is therapeutic, and I hope you keep doing it. You are now in the hearts and prayers of many. Take solace in the fact that you have many brothers and sisters here who care.
Grace and Peace,
Gregorsway

Though I didn't know Donna, I will include her and yourself in my prayers SirH.
Virtually everyone in my family (both parents, sister, cousins, all my aunt/uncles) have died of cancer. It even killed my dog.
I am so sorry to hear this CT; you and your's will also be in my prayers.CT_Shooter wrote:Sadly, I know first hand how difficult it has been for both of you. Re: All Alone Now
All too unfortunate that cancer is what many families have in common. My wife is a cancer survivor thankfully, but it touches way too may lives. But I also think that the other thing many of those families share is a "go ahead and knock me down, I'll just keep getting back up" outlook on life. Stay strong.

Ours too; aunts, uncles, close friends, even a good horse years ago.Henry88 wrote:Though I didn't know Donna, I will include her and yourself in my prayers SirH.

Gene,
I am most saddened to hear the news. I'm glad we've had the chance to share some PMs about your situation, and how much you loved Donna. I valued watching the care you provided by setting aside Forum involvement to be with her. Although a different disease, your journey together is the very same that my wife and I face now as she battles with Parkinson's Disease. I understand, and your "All Alone Now" has strongly gotten my thoughtful attention. It is not easy at all to imagine life without my dear, gentle wife either; it may be so someday....
As many have said, you are not alone. Friends, family, and especially God are all there for you. My wife and I send you our deep, heartfelt sympathy, and will pray for you and family in the days ahead that you may experience peace that is beyond our understanding.
Take much good care...."The Lord bless and keep you."

I lost my first wife at 24 and my second at 49. Im not sure what it would be like to lose another at the age I am at now which is 64. I have a close friend that I hunt and fish with who is your age and he lost his wife and son. I can only imagine what its like and I see how my close friend is with his loss. When you lose someone at an early age at least you have a chance to recover and move on although I have and never will forget the ones I lost. Im sorry for your loss and I wish you nothing but the best. Al

Re: All Alone Now
Gene, I have had a feeling that she had passed or was very close for for the past month. I remember when you first let a few of us know when she was diagnosed. It seems a very long time ago now. Looking back at the things the two of you did together the road trips in the Transit van. I was stuck by the courage and hope you expressed. I do know that she wanted you to continue being the man she loved. And to continue doing the things that you love. I remember a story you shared with us long before she got sick. It was the time you ate her Valentine chocolates before giving them to her. That memory just brought a smile to my face and a tear to my eye.
Take care of yourself and continue to be the man Donna loved.

I do have a weakness for chocolate but so did Donna. We both had secret stashes laying around the house.RetiredSeabee wrote:Gene, I have had a feeling that she had passed or was very close for for the past month. Re: All Alone Now
So sorry to hear this. I've lost a mother and a brother to cancer. On 2 occasions I've nearly lost my wife to health issues. My heart goes out to you!
I of course didn't know your wife. But reading your words here for a while tells me that she would want you to keep on keeping on. Grieve but don't wallow in this. Stay active. Shoot your guns and go hiking. The best way to honor the ones we've lost is to live the lives we have with gusto!

Gene, I am so very sorry to hear about your wife's passing. She is in a better place now and her suffering has ceased.
You are fortunate to have many interest and friends around you. The house remodel will help and continue to pursue the hobbies you love. Remember we are here for you.

Re: All Alone Now
Watching her suffer was the hardest part. You can't imagine the emotions you go through. I wanted her to live forever yet wanted her to pass quickly. Then I would feel guilty for thinking that.GeoBoy wrote:Gene, I am so very sorry to hear about your wife's passing. She is in a better place now and her suffering has ceased.

We all just do the best we can with what we have on any given day Sir Henry. Cut yourself some slack when you can, I'm sure your wife would.

There's something to be said/expected for quality of life. That's the hardest bridge to cross over and accept. Thoughts and prayers to you, my friend.

So very sorry to hear your wife's passing, Condolences. I am racing toward 80, my wife of 55 years is 75 and she is recovering from cancer. I have had two heart attacks and I often wonder what I would do if she goes first. No one can answer that question, we all react differently. One of my brother in laws died during the Nam War. His wife had a bad time with it. Here is a song perhaps it will help you know we are never alone.

Re: All Alone Now
I have been getting out more and doing things with friends and neighbors. Having lived in this house for 28 years and having some of the same neighbors for the entire time helps. The home remodel helps but at the same time is overwhelming.
