Last night was my 14th and final night sleeping in the teardrop. It will be nice not to have to brave the cold in the middle of the night just to pee. The relative humidity is still around 16 percent so the last finish coat is curing fast and the smell is almost gone. That Swedish finish really stinks.

I put down some Persian rugs for a few minutes just to see what it looks like. I can't leave them down for another two weeks but they sure looked great against the wood floor. I'll be getting more rugs in the next few weeks.

I'm still moving furniture from the garage and painting. Next up is to move furniture out of the master bedroom for hardwoods there. I'll end up with about 1,700 square feet of red oak. This project is taking over my life as I barely have five minutes to myself.

Seems to me that with all your furniture gone you could use your house as a range.

The red oak arrived today and needs to be kept at 68 degrees. Currently the relative humidity is 29% so it is rather dry.

I will have to read this thread.

I had solid oak floors in the house that my late husband and I built back east. Throughout the entire house shy of two bathrooms, the kitchen and the full big basement. The floors still looked like new when I sold the house after he died 30 plus years later on. We did not have kids but we had dogs. WE had company and lived in the boonies. We did not BABY the floors too. I never had to refinish them either. I polished them once a year.

I built this house here in Montana. It is the second house that I built and helped to design. My ENTIRE house here has the same solid oak including in the kitchen and bathroom. This house has no basement, only a full crawl space, and I went to a one floor, much smaller house compared to my bigger house back east. (I had a den/bedroom on the first floor with a FULL and big enough bathroom where I could get a wheelchair in there back east. A bathroom on the second floor back there too.)

I am ready to build a third house (?) since my husband finally retired. Remarried widow as you and some others already know. We are talking about it again and this will be my last house and/or cabin. I will do the same solid oak floors again.

I had those same oak floors growing up on the East Coast. They always held up well! I NEVER lived in a house with wall to wall carpeting. I did live in a brand new built apartment before I built this house that had w/w carpeting. I did not care for it but to each their own.

WOOD floors were not super 'popular' when I built my first house (70's) but I did not care. They were popular when I sold it though.

I NEVER regretted doing those floors as a young bride after his Nam time or as an older lady.

I have a few new, smaller, quality made, oriental rugs by the front and back doors as I did back east. Old designs made by Karastan. I have a rug under my two black leather, Stressless chairs too. I have 4 Stickley oak chairs and they look great with the floors too. I have small felt pads on the bottom of the legs that you can't see.

I have far less furniture here (MT) too. I did NOT have tons of STUFF, back east, but the house was much bigger and my rooms were BIG compared to many homes. That house was not bare or total minimalist. My late husband and I had already started to gift a bunch of stuff before his cancer was discovered too. We sold some things but a lot was gifted to close friends or to their children and given to very good causes.

I know that YOU will love your new wood floors and how you fix up your house more to your liking.

My oak came in a HUGH bulk amount as yours did too. Many, many years ago and when I built this house too.

I'm going to look at more rugs today. I'm buying only hand knotted 100% wool rugs. Most are Tabriz's but I have some Serapis, Chobis, and a Bidjar.

Yep three weeks. They started last Friday and all the wood was laid. Then on Monday we had a bad storm that dumped the area with eight inches of very wet snow. Then when the roads got better I lost power so they couldn't work. Today was the first day back and they sanded and put the first and second coat of Swedish Finish down. The first coat soaked in and dried in about 20 minutes so a second coat was possible in the same day. Tomorrow they will polish and put the final coat down. Then three days of a strong acid smell. Right now I'm about overwhelmed with the smell and I've only been inside about a half hour. Gotta get out fast.

I'm back to sleeping in the teardrop. I really like sleepy outside in the winter. The teardrop isn't heated when I'm sleeping but does have a small electrical heater in it in the daytime. Nice to slip into a nice warm bed on a cold winter night.
