All Alone Now

Post by Sir Henry » Tue Jan 31, 2017 11:13 am

Many of you know my wife of 42 years had terminal cancer. Her battle ended a few weeks ago and I find myself all alone. Never thought I would be in this position. Don't know what else to say.

Gene, words just seem so inadequate at these times, but nevertheless, our heartfelt condolences. As for being alone, just remember that you have all of us here on this and other forums, my good friend.

So sorry to hear that. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I know it is trite, but the pain will diminish. Life will get better.

Hang in there buddy.

I have often thought what I would do if it happened to me as I will soon be married for 48 years. I suppose that those thoughts occur to many of us as we age and have spent so many years together, as opposed to when we were young and this was the furtherest thing from our mind. Once again, I can only assume, but I believe that each individual handles it differently to a certain extent. You like to hike and be with your friends there, and I suppose you have other interests but I am sure that this is overwhelming at times. But please be assured that you also have many friends here, even if we can't actually sit down and chat face to face. Stay involved with outside interests and some people I understand, even find a support group. All that being said, I still wish to extend my deepest sympathy and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Just take care of yourself and stay healthy.

Gene,
You have my very deepest sympathy. I hope you are filled with courage as you work your lonely way forward toward peace of mind, heart, and soul.

Sadly, I know first hand how difficult it has been for both of you. My sweet wife of 43 years also has terminal cancer. Loving her is the easiest thing I've ever done; losing her will be the hardest. I cannot even imagine it.

Take good care of yourself.

I have really sad moments but I'm also looking for a life without Donna. She released me about a year ago. Her mother died of cancer when she was 21 and her mom was barely 50. Her mom made her dad promise her he would never remarry and that caused a lot of problems because he was barely 60 years old. A few years later the kids (my wife) told their dad they did not hold him to that promise and he remarried soon after and lived another 34 years.

I didn't like being released at the time but now understand why she did it. I never would have been able to move on and she knew it. So my current life has been planned. I'm remodeling the house and making it mine and not ours. I'm keeping only a few cherished items and gave away a lot of furniture.

So if you see me posting causally about new floor please understand why.

You are in my family's thoughts and prayers. Lean on the people you can when you need to, but also know that we are all much stronger than we can ever know. Quiet reflection alone is also necessary to grieve. Bless you and your loved ones.

Gene, please accept my deepest condolences. I don't know what to tell you, except that it will get better. Slowly, yes very slowly, but it does get better. We never stop missing those who go before we do, but somehow time has a way of healing.
