Priorities, priorities

Post by cal44 » Tue Jan 31, 2017 11:54 am

I have three Henry rifles I'd like to get this year:

1. A Big Boy steel in 41 Magnum. I just like 41 Magnum, and it's very hard to find a Marlin or other brand. There is always the possibility that Henry will find they don't sell and stop making them before I get mine.

2. A rifle (or carbine) in 327 Federal. This has been announced, but I don't think it's shipping yet. I carry a revolver in 32 H&R magnum and have recently acquired a Ruger LCR in 327 Federal. Every good revolver needs a lever gun to do with it.

3. Some kind of 22LR. I don't have a 22 rifle of any kind. I did when I was a kid, but my mom sold it out from under me when I was in college. I think it's borderline un-American to not have a 22 long gun. I'd either get a pump or a lever. I'm just not a semi-auto person.

So which come first? Trying to decide.

I know the best solution is to buy all three, but there is the idea of keeping enough money in the bank to live on.

I would go for the .22 first. You will be able to shoot to your hearts content, safe in the knowledge that your savings aren't going to be diminished by high ammo prices. :D

After that, just enjoy whatever comes next - and don't forget the pics and range reports. ;)

I will not tell you which to choose as far as a .22, but yes, I would go with that one first. I can only say that after having shot rim fire since I was 10 years old, and having semiautos, bolt actions and lever actions, my first Henry was the Golden Boy H004. Personally, I am not a fan of the pump action, not to say that it might be a great choice for you and other members. When I bought my Golden Boy it was less expensive than what they are today, of course, but it is very, very accurate. And to me, even a bit more than my H001. Of course it looks great too! All it requires as far as the brasslite receiver is to wipe it off with a soft cloth. Now, if you want to hunt big game, that is another whole story as far as their center fire line.

Yeah, just for the sake of being able to afford to shoot as much as you want, I'd also recommend the 22. A 22 allows you to practice all the basics without breaking the bank or having to deal with a lot of noise and recoil and what you learn with the 22 translates right into shooting other guns. Very much why I also shoot a lot of air guns.

Any of the 22's are sweet, but those pump action at least mine I really enjoy.

I'm with Les. You need a 22.

Either way you can't lose. Pick a direction and go for it.

Ok Im gonna take the favorite approach. Im know all the suggestions for the 22 are the more practical but for me Id go with the 41 mag first because without a doubt its my favorite round. So Id get the 41. Al
