Good to hear!

A Big Boy is on my short list of guns to buy. Mine will likely be a 357.

Getting hooked on the 45 Colt with several new SA revolvers, so there may be one of those 45 Colt Henrys in my future, now. Thanks for the report.

I have one also and love the carbine model. Mine likes 6.5 grs of red dot with a 250 coated bullet from Missouri cast. Also likes 12 gr of hs-6 with the same bullet. Al

I'm liking it so much that a brass Wildlife version 45-70 is in the works

Really wanted a Gold Steel model. The rd barrel is lighter and the pistol grip fit my big hands better . Then I would have to make a big loop lever

After looking that the Gold leaf around the ejection port it just looks off to me . Its not symmetrical (yes I know the ejection port is narrower at the front but adding the gold left just makes it stand out) plus only a few of the curls are gold leafed just strange to my eyes so a brass version is how I will go and look at changing the stock to a pistol grip and large loop later if I cant get comfortable with the straight grip

Its been said that the straight grip style gets more recoil to the shooter if so then the brass butt plate would amplify that recoil as well
Time will tell as I have 2 Marlin 45-70's with pistol grips to compare it to recoil wise

I love the brass version of the 45-70. But when I chose mine I went with the CCH version as I like the pistol grip and the look of CCH as well. It looks alot better in person that it does in pictures. The recoil pad is also very nice if shooting big boomers is something you like to do often. Al

That has been my experience with the 45-70 in Marlins with straight grips and especially with a crescent metal buttplate in other 45-70 levers guns. Well worth adding a slip on recoil pad, at least.
