Me too, I liked his character and his competitive spirit. But I have to respect his decision and he is healthy now and has not had to deal with injuries like Kyle Bush and Dale Jr. I would have made him my favorite driver this year had he decided to race this year. So, needing a favorite as I said, I will jump on the bandwagon with my wife and root for Chase Elliott. And, I still have a spot for Tony Stewart in my heart. :D

Chase is a good guy. He is on the way to doing very well in the sport. I'm not crazy about his car owner, but one of my favorite drivers also drives for him, lol (Jr).

Im a huge old Nascar fan. When I say that I mean I like the old days when Bill Elliot and Earnhardt use to go at it. I never was to much of an Earnhardt Sr fan but Im a big Dale Jr fan because I think Seniors wife did Jr wrong. I was also a Mark Martin fan big time. I have kind of lost interest in the sport though since toyota was allowed to enter it. Al

Big changes in the Racing Format announced yesterday.

Not sure if I like them yet, but I guess time will tell.

I've been reading the releases and remain somewhat confused about just what they are going to do .... hopefully by the time they get to the big race at Daytona the commentators will have covered the changes sufficiently for me to understand it

Yeah, I think we all will be a lot smarter by Daytona. I am interested to see it in action myself as sometimes I am a bit "slow" about these things. :D But, since I like the racing and the drivers so much, I am sure that I will continue to watch it no matter how they change it. However there have been a lot of changes in the past few years, at least since I really got into it around 1989.

There's been a whole bunch of changes in the recent years.

I believe it's Brian France trying many different things, but he is all over the map.

It feels like a carnival ride at times.

Let's hope this one works out good, but if not, he needs to dump it quick.

They lost me last yr.
Two many commercial's , and I don't see any reason to sit thru a 500 mile race, if they are going to stop all the cars
10 laps from the end, line them back up and have a restart, because some how something fell off or out of a car. Why not just make them 10 lap races .!
P.s.I use to love racing, this was my last car.

understood on the commercials .... with attendance down, they have to generate TV revenue which the networks get from advertising .... best example is, I've never been an NBA fan but while he was playing I was a big Michael Jordan fan .... I used to be a NASCAR fan but no longer .... now I pull for the 10, 48, and 88 ....

Well then ,why not go back to the way it was when the stands were full.
Instead of keep going down the wrong road.
Make the points system simple. So you don't need a professional book keeper .

I really don't think the chase format is the cause of the downturn .... rather, NASCAR has taken innovation out of racing .... they want cookie cutter cars that are equal .... hence the pack racing .... it used to be that a team with come up with a modification and the others would have to catch up .... now they penalize innovation .... the saying was win on Sunday, sale on Monday .... now the cars have little resemblance to what is in the showrooms

This all the way. ^^^^^

Plus, what is with the competition cautions every 20 minutes with the truck series? Seems to me they are treating that series like a bunch of rookies. No more excitement or action like it was 10 years ago....BOOOOORRRRRRRRIIIIIINNNNNNGGGGGG. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

I haven't had a chance to really check that out in the Truck Series yet, but I sure didn't like the sound of it when I first heard about it.

Very true,.....we went to Daytona every year for ten years straight. Quit going a few years ago, NASCAR is being morphed into Indy Car

I agree with the run what you can develop. Restrictor plates left me behind. I have no interest anymore. Both of the Frances with there modification of Nascar have ruined it.

I'm an old hold-out and they are starting to wear me out lately, but I'll be waiting to see how things go this year with all the changes going on.

In all fairness though, the development was overpowering the Superspeedways. If left wide open, they would probably be reaching about 250 MPH by now. That 218 that Bill Elliott hit years ago got Nascar's attention. Those Superspeedway wrecks are bad enough as it is. One reason why I'm a fan of Short Tracks.
