These are not Matchbox cars

I had almost forgot about this one that I ordered for myself around Christmas. I have always liked fire trucks, even the really old ones. I can remember back in the late 1940's and early 1950's when I was visiting my grandparents for a few weeks during summer vacation and my grandfather would take me down to the firehouse. This is one in a series that Texaco released years ago and now, as I understand, has been brought back. This is all diecast except for the "chrome" which is plastic. The tires are rubber. It is a 1926 Seagrave and it is actually a bank but I won't use it for that purpose.

Here is a matchbox car next to a Greenlight 1/64 NYPD car from different angles.













Because they are so small, perspective is a bit skewed. I hope this helps you see the relative size and perspective angles I'm talking about.

daytime dave--There is quite a difference in size, did you say the Greenlight cars and matchbox are supposed to be the same scale? I would guess Greenlights are more true to scale than matchbox. I will have to look into them myself. My slots are 1/32 scale. I have compared my cars to photos of the actual cars and the graphics are very close if not exact. Only on a couple of them could I find a difference, mainly location of a specific graphic logo. I have always liked most anything done in miniature, heck, cannot afford the real thing, buy a toy put it on the shelf and daydream about the real thing!

Holy cow, I had completely forgotten about Scalextric cars and track. My dad, brother and I had many hours of racing fun with those in the 60's. I had these 2 cars, the Ford GT and the Jaguar.

We used to "oil" up a few patches on the track with a spot of grease so the cars would spin out once in awhile. haha Good fun. If I recall they had rubber tires that were spongy and slick treads. If you raced for quite a while the car would smell like a transformer burning. Maybe it was burning!

rhill, the matchbox is a 1/64 like scale. The Greenlight and others are a true 1/64 scale. The matchbox cars are all the same length, whether it's a fire truck or a camero. I'll try to take a couple photographs to help illustrate what I mean.
