2016 Camaro RS

Post by JEBar » Sun Jan 15, 2017 12:12 am

Historically when we purchase a new vehicle we keep it for 10 or more years .... in years past my wife has had 2 other Camaros .... both of which were totaled, both of which protected the occupants .... in March of 2016 she decided she wanted to look for a replacement for her 2005 Trailblazer .... considering our ages, its was and still is realistic to believe that this is highly likely to be the last one for her .... when she saw the Camaro below, our search ended .... without question, its one of the nicest vehicles we have ever owned .... loaded with features like lane change clearance warning, even air conditioned seats .. :? .. it corners like a sports car and, somewhat to my surprise, its ride is outstanding .... I could literally travel cross country in it .... its hard to believe that its 6 cylinder engine generated 330 some horse power and cruising on the interstate, cruise set at the limit plus 4 mph, she gets 30+ mpg .... keeping in mind that we travel about 6 months a year, she's put a little over 5,000 miles on it .... we kept the Trailblazer because as nice as the Camaro is, it doesn't accommodate child safety seats for our grandchildren .. :D

Beautiful car inside and out, I really like the color and the design. The gas mileage is very impressive. What brand of polish do you use on it?

Very nice looking Camaro and a real nice color. Hard to imagine the power they get from a V-6 engine now. I remember the Camaros and the Nova in late '60's and early '70's with the 350 V-8 was factory rated 300 HP and now a V-6 has that and more with good gas mileage. I wish they could give the V-6 the V-8 sound then they would have it all except the torque of the 8. My Tundra comes closer to the V-8 sound with the dual exhaust on the V-6 than about any V-6 I have heard. Manual trans available in the Camaro? I am still a gear jammer at heart. Went to look at new Mustangs with my wife and was shocked to see the manual trans even in the V-8 Mustangs was made in China. Ended the deal for me right there.

it came with a flawless clear coat .... guess we will have to check with our dealership and see what they recommend .... it isn't black, as I remember they call it Night Gray Metallic (or something like that) .... it shines like black but doesn't show dirt anywhere near as bad

we test drove a V8 and its sound is incredible .... its get up and go was impressive .... for what we need/want, we just couldn't justify the expense, lower mileage and requirement for high test gas .... she ended up with a Rally Sport model that has the top exterior and interior of the big boy but comes with the V6 .... when you step down on the go pedal she does generate a solid rumble on the outside and is amazingly quiet on the inside .... as noted, I've been very surprised by the quality of the ride, it is much better than the ones she had in the mid to late 90's

white cars come in many different shades .... our daughter has a 2015 white Camaro that looks like the lady ought get out wearing a long black formal dress and the guy in a Tux .... my wife's looks like Bat Girl ought to step out form behind the steering wheel .. ;) ... that is specially true with its very bright LED front lights

Nice wheels....just need a little horse or cow manure on the floor mats to make it feel like home...ok, well I guess that's not for everybody.

That is a very cool car though!

the fact of the matter is, as nice as her Camaro is, if I had to drive it all the time, I wouldn't have it ..... it wasn't designed for an old, stiff fellow my size .... I've learned to get in and out but don't enjoy it .... the door has to be wide open for me to do so .... once I'm in, all's good .... the seats are remarkable .... it has several blind spots but has an alert system that really works well .... backup camera is excellent .... I'd rather have thicker sidewalls in the tires but that ain't the style today

as noted, we still have my wife's '05 .... early on it had some electrical gremlins .... once they figured them out, it performed flawlessly for over 10 years when we had to replace the transmission .... after reviewing its condition, the independent mechanic who handled the replacement recommended going with a new OEM unit .... since we plan to keep it, he said it was in too good condition to go with a used or rebuilt one .... if we were home and needed to head cross country, I wouldn't hesitate cranking it and getting on the road

Maureen's Camaro is a few days short of being 1 year old .... today we drove it 550+ miles round trip from our home in central NC to Asheville for a visit with my Mom in her retirement home .... during the trip she turned over 6,000 miles ... we drove mostly interstate highways with the cruise set at interstate speed limits plus 3 - 4 mph and she delivered 32 mpg .... she handles like a dream and is a blast to drive

we've made the same drive several times and the mileage has consistently been around 30 .... times have changed from the days when new vehicles required following a break-in schedule .... today that isn't the case but being old school I still believe that it .... takes a while for all of the parts to settle in .... with her now having traveled 6,000 miles, I tend to believe that her performance is pretty much at the level we can expect for a good while to come .... needless to say, we are very pleased with mpg and would love to get her to the flat lands our west and turn her loose on an interstate with an 80 mph speed limit

Very nice
You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.
