Secret to magazine tube?
Hello gals and gents! I've recently procured a Henry Golden Boy chambered in the famous 45-70 Govt. It is a joy to shoot a the range and I get a thrill each and every time I squeeze off a round. I am having some difficulty with my brass magazine rod though. I had a friend over to shoot and couldn't for the life of me get the rod to go down over 3 rounds. It was sort of embarrassing! Is there a secret or something I'm missing? The first few times I loaded my Henry- it just slide straight down over the rounds and I thumbed the notch in place. Do you have to clean it or lube it for it to stay smooth? I've shot less than a box of ammo. Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas to all!

don't know if you've seen it or not, here is a link to a Henry video that deals with loading a 45-70 ===> https://www.henryrifles.com/henry-instr ... odel-h010/ <=== if you follow the directions given in the video and still have an issue, I'd recommend you call Henry customer service .... as an additional suggestion, I'd suggest you take a close look at the end of the rod and see if it is dented .... please report back and let us know what you find

Thank you very much for the instructional video that I overlooked. I will try the methods shared and report back. More than likely...I am the culprit- I usually am! Brightest blessings!

Thanks for the warm welcomes! I appreciate it! Yes, I am finding out about the outstanding customer service already, and the loyal Henry followers who stand at the ready to help a newbie out.
The gentle twists back and forth did just the trick. Fortunately, I was not slamming or forcing anything....so I don't think I did any permanent damage to anything. I was able to quite easily load four cartridges and glide the brass magazine down over them by using the method shown in the video.
I had watched several YouTube videos of other Henry Golden Boy owners but I missed how they were doing it. The Henry "how to" video pointed out my errors and I am pleased with the way everything works! I'm glad I discovered Henry rifles and this forum!

Re: Secret to magazine tube?
Not to pick, but the Golden Boy is a rimfire weapon. You probably have a Big Boy. If that is what you have, I can understand the confusion. The Big Boy has the same beautiful brass receiver that the Golden Boy has.
I'm sure you will get lots of pleasure from your Henry regardless of what you call it.
I had a little bit of a learning curve with my Big Boy steel in .357. I had to learn to operate the lever with authority, and I had to learn to keep the receiver vertical when cycling. With a little practice and break in, it has become one smooth operator. My daughter shoots it like a pro. I love to watch her run a magazine full through it and tear the center out of the target. It puts a smile on both our faces.

There is, I think, humor here which does not translate well from English to sanity. - Sanya

Glad you got your issue figured out! I will have to remember that if I ever have issues loading. I have the original 45-70 as well as a 44mag Bigboy brass. Happy shooting! And welcome to the forum.
Re: Secret to magazine tube?
I have the H009 30-30. Sometimes when I load it and put the mag tube back in I have to twist it back and forth a little bit like I'm tuning in a station on an old radio. It goes right in when I do that.

Re: Secret to magazine tube?
You are correct! I am incorrect. I've been calling my Golden Boy since I walked out of the store with it. Hahaha. Big Boy is fine. And I'm a big boy too, so I can take the correction quite easily- I've also been married for nearly 30 years...so getting corrected daily is the norm for me. This is a good-natured, fun forum. All you folks are way too nice and friendly! Toughen up a little bit people!
