Marlin 39A-1954

Post by bandit1250 » Wed Dec 14, 2016 8:13 pm

I bought a Marlin 39A about 6 years or so ago at Cabellas of all places. They are seldom known to have a deal on used guns. This one was checkered by some one but is nice shape and at $195 I had room to buy other wood for it if I decided to. I have got to where I like it well enough the way it is to leave it alone. It had a Mossberg 4x with a long tube and the adjustments on the eye piece that worked out well as this rifle is in the '54-56 years that Marlin side drilled the barrel ahead of the receiver if sold at Sears. This is a factory drilled model. With the adjustments located on the eye piece that gave all the travel needed to get the right eye relief. I tried to clean the old scope up and broke the cross hairs in it and had to put a Weaver 4x Marksman on it. So I was lucky to find another old in the box Mossberg 4M4 4X just like the one it came with. So with my room at least back to where I can work in there for now I decided it was time to make the switch to the Mossberg.

Here is my 39A with the Mossberg on it. I think I might just call it a Sir Henry scope. ;)

What a fine, fine old 39A (I've owned my share) and that vintage scope is awesome. I am jealous. Thanks for sharing.

Verrry nice, Ditto.
And especially so because you are back in your work room again....hurrah! :)
Fine-looking rifle, beautiful wood stock -- all set up with the "Sir Henry" mounted on it. ;)

Glad you're back in business again, Bandit. That's a beautiful rifle and scope combination.

That's a nice looking 39A, Bandit, and I'm really glad that you can start working on your guns again. ;)
