We also spend a ton of time in Ventura, and my wife used to spend a lot of time in Malibu. One of my oldest friends lived in La Conchita for decades. We were in Ventura for Christmas. Stayed in Hobson County Park to enjoy the water… Hadn’t planned on it coming sideways out of the sky though. That is not the usual though. Sunsets around Faria and Hobson are amazing!

Yes, that looks fabulous!. I admit, I don't get out much in this direction. When I leave town it's always in the other direction.
I did conduct some business though years ago, that took me out into those small enclaves on either side of the 101, before you get to Santa Barbara.

At first the Single Shot feels light. I suppose that's associated with its slender appearance.
Once you open the breech and half the weight is shifting, one gets a different impression of the rifle's weight.
The breech closes very accurately, it gives a solid feel once it is closed. Shotgun shooters are probably very familiar with that part of their long gun. Since there is no real receiver/action, the rifle surely is nicely compact.
I would expect her to kick with vigor, .308 is no caliber for slouches.

I remember those pictures on the news back then. When the Floyd riots were happening my stepson (owner of the Malibu place I recently posted about) wanted to buy a gun. His wife was very anti-gun but relented when the riots got to within a mile or so of their home in the valley. He had to endure the lines like in your picture.

I remember I got stuck at the only intersection between Newbury Park and Thousand Oaks, CA.
All the High School kids with their big signs had come out, they had to close the intersection.
I noticed a fighter jet came flying very low & slow directly over the intersection. That jet was almost noiseless!
Later it got me thinking, they probably had a high-res camera mounted and took inventory.
With a jet like this, they could have covered a large portion of SoCal's popup locations in 2 hours or less & run the footage thru their recognition systems. Next day (or sooner) they have a nice list of participants.

We have a daughter who is quite on the Liberal side who lives in North Minneapolis.

She has always told us the people where she lives are wonderful and we have no need to worry, (that's we're just prejudice is all). Well, the riots got within a block or so of her house, (but we didn't worry, she told us not to didn't she).

So one day Carol called just to chat and she was very upset that we hadn't called earlier. Seems they were barricaded in their house and the neighborhood was patrolling the street trying to keep the rioters out. Who knew? She told us it was a wonderful place. The police station that they allowed the mob to burn was a couple of blocks away.

So now she's mad that her Mother won't come up and help her harass ICE. She has her whistle and follows them around. Her Husband and Son are not happy with her, but she's an emotional force unto herself. God help us all.

They removed the statue of Father St. Junipero Serra, who is credited with the founding of the mission San Buenaventura.

It's such a drag to get anything done around here, as soon as you have to drive a few miles on the fwy.
I thought I have an In n Out burger. What a trap that place is. It didn't look bad by the number of cars.
Anyways, by the time I picked that burger, I must have been in line at least 20 minutes +.

Lucky me, I only drive short distances. Cost of fuel, plus traffic stand in direct contradiction with my idea of "quality of life".
Some douche drove his p/u truck into the ditch. Result: several miles of backed up traffic.
Mind you, that was 2:30pm afternoon. Don't any of those people have a place called work?

Well, nothing a nice piece of Rock n Roll couldn't fix.

I missed the "morning weather & coffee" today. I got busy the moment I opened my eyes this morning.
Didn't get much sleep either. To be plain, my GF's medical condition requires an increasing amount of attention.
I have help coming to the house, also nights, but there are still plenty of hours I have to be on duty.
There is no time for personal things. If it I find a moment I like to play a guitar.

As far as shooting goes, I only know of 2 outdoor ranges. Both are at least an hour drive one way.
There is the club range which I really love to visit. It's locate at the Rose Valley at 3200 feet. That means I have to drive sharp turns as I am going upward from sea level. It's beautiful up there, strong cross winds though. Another caveat are club events. Those may occupy or close off parts of the range. Sometimes this aspect is not clearly indicated in the calendar. A quick view, the wind is very audible. Not shooting going on. This must have been on a Saturday morning "workday", which is a participation requirement for members, at least once a year.

That’s one impressive range you have there. I don’t shoot long range anymore nor do I have any long range firearms but there was a day not too many years ago I would be a kid in a candy store at that range……

I seldom shoot beyond 50 yards. Next year i may improve my upper range and shoot out to 100 yards. I would have to build an elevated tower.

I’d be delighted to have a range up to 50 yards, within a reasonable distance.
50 yards is great for many shooting tasks, especially hand held and with open sights.

Hatchdog is familiar with my area/region. I was very active at the Rose Valley, participating in regular pistol matches.
I was still living in Agoura Hills. That's a 40 minute drive on the 101 'til I get to the exit for the Hwy 33. Than at least 50 minutes up the curvy road the range. That's 90 minutes without traffic at 6am and pushing it up into the mountains through the turns.

Sign in at 8.30, match starts at 9 am. Now Saturday/Sunday events start at 8 am or even 7.30 am.
Some of those early start times have to do with the crosswinds which begin reliably before noon, they want to have the match completed before than.
Well, I always had good times up there. Problem is though, for safety reasons they close the covered 200 yard pistol/rifle range when the ranges next to it are active and hot. Coming up to shoot on your own might proof to be difficult, because of that. You'd have to wait until the other shooting parties are done.
