Single Shot in .308

Post by Ted124 » Tue May 19, 2026 4:21 pm

I am considering a single shot in .308.
I previously emailed Henry Repeating Arms. They quoted up to 90 days, from the time my LGS places an order with them.
I still have some 500 rounds of .308. It was my go to bolt action and M1A caliber.
I don't want to go bolt or semi-auto again, I just like to shoot it occasionally. I think .308 is a great round for a rifle.
What's the word on the range? :ugeek:

Placed an order on a Henry H15 Steel Single Shot in .308
Regional distributor has it in stock. It won't take very long, maybe up to 2 weeks.

I like the pistol grip and the simplicity of a blued steel frame.

I own a Henry Single Shot in .30-30 Win. and it is one of my favorite firearms. I bet you will be quite pleased with the rifle when you receive it.

Nice, and congrats, that looks like a nice rifle. I like that stock and frame too, and it has that kind of functional appearance that a single shot should have. The 10 twist should handle almost anything you want to shoot through it.
So are the Henry single shots capable of changing barrels for a different caliber/cartridge?

I have not seen anything that would indicate that barrels can be changed. I don't think so.

It's almost like a single action revolver, just a much longer barrel. Gotta cock that hammer every time.
The lever to open the breach works in both directions, making the rifle ambidextrous.
Else there is not much to it.

I remember, when I started to put single rounds into my M1A's chamber. I had the feeling something was amiss. :?:
In any case, it's still a 22" barrel. That'll bring the .308 up to speed. 300 yards (w/ scope) no problem.

The Henry Single Shot rifle doesn't have the ability to change barrels, at least not to my knowledge. I think if it were easily done, Henry would offer rifle/shotgun combinations.

I looked it up, and Gemini said they are not interchangeable, at least not without a lot of gunsmithing.
They do look amazingly similar to the single barrel shotgun. Still a nice rifle, and I'm interested to hear how it shoots.

My order, the Single Shot in .308 came in on Monday. Wasn't able to go and DROS it yesterday, but I am planning for today.
I hope all goes well, that I can make it out of the workplace for an hour and get that background check turned in.
