Ted, congratulations on a nice looking .45 Colt Henry. I bought my .45 Colt Big Boy used also. It too was in great shape. It doesn't get out much though.
I'm not shooting much either these days. Due to family needs I have to be close to home most of the time. My Gun Club's range is in the mountains with no cell reception. I already unloaded my 9mm pistols, Mini 14 and a .308 bolt action.

2 S&W revolvers will stay with me until the end and 2x 1911s .45 ACP for selfdense, should the need arise.

Those 2 Henry rifles are more eye candy than range guns.
Except finding a good deal on ammo for those 2 rifles, I am trying to stay out of the gun store for a while.
When you get that 357 Henry to the range expect accuracy like this. This group was shot at 50 yards from a bench using a 7x scope.

Wow, that's one heck of a group. Bullseye!
I am not sure I would put a scope on that carbine. I like iron sights. Aim is not as accurate because of diminished eyesight, but with 1x shooting glasses I am doing ok. I had a group like this only once, 10-15 yards with a S&W 625 JM in .45 ACP. Performance Center grade revolver.

Got it, thanks. I saw the thread when logged out. As soon as I logged in, it disappeared. I posted, before I forget.
Yeah, I've been around internet forums for many years. Not too many at the same time. It's more like moving on after a few years.
I like this small group, spread across the country. It will be interesting. :geek:

I'm on a few small forums on different subjects, but this one is one of my favorites. Polite folks with lots of good info.
I enjoy the morning coffee and weather roundup. A nice cross section of the US, Canada, and also Australia.
I don't agree about Henry's accuracy and hunting use. The brass receivers are pretty but if you look at the whole lineup they
have some really nice hunting rifles. I own a couple.

My Henry 30-30 in brass and scoped will take down minute of nutria at 200yds. Accurate enough.

What? Wait, you have nutria in Oregon? I thought they were only in the South.

What? Wait, you have nutria in Oregon? I thought they were only in the South.
They were introduced into the West coast in the 1930's for fur farming. Raising them for fur didn't work out, so they got released! They are now everywhere in western Oregon and Washington streams and wetlands. Central California valleys had them for a while, but the state claims they've been eradicated.

We've talked of hunting nutria here on the forum before, but not for a couple of years now. Try the now working 'search' for "nutria".

57 F in Ventura CA coast. It's supposed to be in the high 60s. It remains pleasantly cool during the day.
Small cup of coffee, been up since 3 am. Trying to get another hour of sleep before the day starts. :|
Ted, I’m right down the coast from you in the Malibu area. Conditions are the same here as you reported. Every time I visit here I’m cold. That’s from a north guy who experiences winter yearly. Just the humidity I guess.

Having a great visit with the kids/grandkids. Our granddaughter is very involved with dance and we got to attend a performance last night at her school. She’s on the advanced team and did a solo that was wonderful. Felt like I was watching a professional performance on tv.

The view really sucks….

Welcome to the area! Hope you had a pleasant trip. I just figured it is Memorial Day WE.
Lots of foggy mornings along the coast. It should clear up though.

There is the Malibu Performing Arts Center in downtown, I think it is Stewart Ranch Rd. They have a 500 seat auditorium in there, Tom Petty used to rehearse there occasionally. A friend had a key to the building, we snug in and took a listen.

At the Cross Creek shopping center across PCH we used to hang out a lot. "Diedrich Coffee" was the place, before they sold out to Starbucks. It's already 20 years ago, wow!

A view from Pepperdine.

I drove past the Cross Creek area yesterday. Hooray, I’m getting to know the names along here. Our kid’s place is on on what I think is the west end of Malibu???? It’s several miles from the downtown area and on the Ventura side of Zuma beach. We have been using the Kanan canyon road to get between the valley and the beach place.

My wife grew up in the Agoura and Thousand Oaks areas and as a teenager spent a lot of time on Zuma beach and remembers when the Jack in the Box was built. Funny, it’s still there. This was in the late 60’s to early 70’s.

Too bad it's still foggy along the coast. It stays cooler this way.

I used to live in Thousand Oaks/Westlake Village for almost 15 years. Than I moved to Agoura Hills, off Reyes Adobe Rd, in a cal-de-sac called Lake Nadine Pl, from '09 to '18. Had a great time there. Than I move out to Ventura. That's more of an organic town, rather than suburbia.

County Line meets the ocean further West. Neptune's Net is a landmark and the beach there is popular with kite surfers.
They cleaned out the Malibu Lagoon (Cross Creek) several years ago. There is a water treatment plant up in the mountains which spilled into the lagoon which in turn did not have enough runoff into the ocean. It was a big deal. They had to flatten the habit for many birds on the ocean side and dug a wide channel so the lagoon would get flushed out with the tides.

Point Dume is where Kanan (Dume) Rd ends at PCH. Bob Dylan still has his Ranch on the bluffs there.

Big Boy Brass in .45LC has moved into my domicile. She shows some handling marks, nothing major. Well, she has been handled.

I was there in ‘68. All the beaches were trashed with steel beer cans. I believe they started cleaning the beaches in the 70’s.

No smoking, no alcohol, glass or porcelain on Malibu beaches. During peak season, Sheriffs patrol on ATVs. They sniff out your beverage, if you look suspicious.

I avoid summer on the beach, used to love it. Umbrella, Boogie Board, etc.
Now, I only go there during off season.

Good lookin 45 colt Ted. The 45 colt is my favorite for just plinkin, hits hard with a very manageable recoil.
I have 2 rifles and 3 revolvers in this caliber. Have fun and let us know how she performs.

Another morning here on the Malibu coast. A heavy marine layer now but it’s expected to burn off later and be sunny. Not sure what the temp is but I’m sure it’s in the 60’s. A cool down for the holiday weekend that I’m sure will disappoint the locals. We visited the Santa Monica Pier yesterday and it was a very nice day, sunny and probably in the 70’s.

We’ve had the house to ourselves for the last three days but today the family is coming out for the weekend. Plus our granddaughter has three friends coming out. It’s going to be packed as there also are two dogs. Should be a fun time but much more chaotic than we are used to.

Hope you're having a great time despite the fog. If you're in the Malibu Hills, it's always nice up there.
I've seen some dramatic locations, but nothing beats the Lois Ewen Overlook in the Santa Monica Mountains. The only spot I know where you can see the Valley and the LA Basin at the same time. Wouldn't help much with all the fog right now, just saying.
