2003 National Tradewinds 7395 Class A diesel pusher

Post by Sir Henry » Thu May 07, 2026 9:45 pm

I’m thinking of getting my motor home back on the road. I don’t think it would take much. Just new tabs and insurance. My recent trip to Florida reminded me how good 80F weather is over -30F. If I decide to snowbird to the south I might not add the addition to my house or if I do scale it way back. It’s currently well protected in it’s RVPort.

Why have it and not use it?
I grew up in Florida in the 70s and loved it. But it's not what it was.

Sir Henry -

Would you take it South and then leave it in storage until your next trip? I am familiar with south Florida (Lake Okeechobee area) and there are numerous storage facilities for boats, travel trailers and motor homes. I don't have a clue what the storage rates are as I have never used a storage facility but it might be an option for you.

That said, Florida summers, particularly south Florida, are unpleasant. Heat, humidity and no-see-ums but you would be back in Wisconsin by then, I guess.

Most people think the R in RV stands for recreation but it doesn’t. It stands for repair. I use the RV as a spare bedroom. Plus at today’s diesel prices it would have cost me $3,500 for fuel to do the Florida trip I just returned from. What I’m thinking is use it for shorter trips this summer then winter over down south. That way the $3,500 is spread out over three or four months. My Florida trip cost about $4,000 divided by two people.

Another concern is leaving my house for months in the winter. I will need to set up cameras and a temperature monitoring system.

I spent most of the day cleaning the RV. My friend from Montana will be here in a week and will be staying in it.

How does Little Girl like traveling in the RV, do you put her in a carrier when moving or let her run free?

My Callie hates car rides, she cries all the way to the vet. Leroy is perfectly calm, I'm sure he'd be fine out of the carrier.

She tolerates car rides to the vet. During the five months we lived in the motor home she didn’t like it but I think that was mainly the busy RV parks where we stayed plus I think she picked up on my stress of trying to find a permanent home. While going down the road she hid under the bed. She has never expressed any interest in escaping the house or motor home.

When we travel in the motorhome with our two dogs they both will be right up front with us jammed right behind the seats. All that room to stretch out and be comfortable but no…..right up front with us.
