I’ve got 3 “dream” rigs. None are cars.

The 70 Series Land Cruiser double cab on the beach is a friend from Australia’s truck. It would be my “practical” choice. Twin turbo V8 diesel manual transmission from the factory, 1 ton running gear and front and rear lockers.

The 1946 Mercury was on BAT a few years ago. It had a 460 in it. Not practical, but man, it’s cool!

And the “realistic” dream. My friends turbo diesel manual BJ45 Land Cruiser. We have an understanding that I will buy it some day. I just need a spare $30,000 for a two seater…

Yeah, no faults in any of those choices.

Cruising was pretty much killed by the time I was in high school. When my wife and I were dating and after we were married, our second-favorite pastime was driving. Seeing what was over the far blue mountains.

My shoulder has had me laid up for a week or more. I took the local back roads to Greentop (LGS) yesterday. Normally, a 30 min drive. An hour of new backroads, 5 min in the store, an hour back. It was glorious to hear and feel the car purr.
That brings back memories. I attended high school in Henrico County and spent a lot of time in Greentop when it was still in the old location out on Route One. We'd be in for 22 ammo for plinking, 12 gauge for skeet, or fishing supplies. When I left active duty and came home, working as a firearms instructor, Greentop was one of my two main suppliers for duty and training ammunition, and leather for the officers. They moved to the new store a year or two before we left VA. Loved the place. ;)
You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

Those are some awesome rigs!
Since you live in mountainous country as well, I’m not surprised you get it. Cars are fun, but not very practical around here. Our property is on the bottom of a forestry road that can take you 20+ miles straight back into nowhere, with endless offshoot roads to explore. After 6 years of trying, there are still a bunch I haven’t fully explored. Within 15 mins, there are at least 5 other “mains” with multiple branches off each. My driveway holds a 2025 Land Cruiser, a 2005 Power Wagon, a 2025 Tenere 700 and a 1963 VW Manx clone dune buggy. Nothing really pavement forward in that collection.

Yup. 🙂
Nothing like those rigs, but that's why we have three 4-Runners.

I really liked this 'Dreamer'. Last seen in front of my house in 2008. I got out of it when gas hit $2.25 per Gal.
I had it nicely tuned, 7.0 V8. However, 4x drum brakes were a little scary in modern traffic.
